Esau and Jacob. Yes, the offspring of Jacob are the twelve tribes of Israel, God's chosen people.

It was Esau and Jacob, and it wasn't a bowl of chili, but a bowl of soup. Let's clarify.

In Genesis, Issac and Rebakah had twin boys, Esau and Jacob. Jacob was the favored one, but the younger so he didn't have the firstborn rights. Esau was out in the field working, and Jacob had made a meal or soup. Issac was blind and about to go, so he was going to grant his children their rights and a blessing. Esau was hungry and sold his birthright for a bowl of soup. Then Rebakah helped Jacob trick Issac in giving him the firstborn rights. Esau got the leftovers, and remained a wanderer and hunter. It wasn't a covenant, just passing down land and property. Jacob was the father of the 12 tribes of Israel (his other name), but it was because of what God promised Abraham not Issac or Jacob.

You are confusing it with Abraham and his sons Issac (by his wife Sarah) and Ishmael (by the slave girl Hagar.) God made several covenants or promises with Abraham, like his seed would be as great as the stars in the sky, and he was eager to get that fulfilled so he slept with his wife's slave instead of letting God take care of it. From that union Ishmael was born (the leader of the Muslims), but Issac was the choosen son (the linage that Jews and Christians believe in.)

Lots of stories in Genesis, and they make for an interesting read, even if you aren't a believer.

The two guys and the bowl of stew were Esau and Jacob. I am quite sure that Esau never meant to follow through with it, he was just hungry at the time, and after all - Jacob was his LITTLE brother. "Little guy gonna steal my birthright? No way- I'll kick his bu*t." He wasn't serious. But the problem- Jacob was. And you see who ended up with the blessing - Jacob.

About the sons of Abraham. God made he and his wife Sara a promise, and they got tired of waiting on God. Sarah conned Abraham into taking her maid, "doing" her, and wa-la you have Israels main enemy. They have been fighting every since. Because you see - God kept His promise to Abraham - it just took longer than Abe and Sara wanted it to... Ishmael and Issac.
But, isn't about their names, or even which is older, it is a story about not waiting on God and the bitterness that was born out of it. Sad indeed, if Sara hadn't gotten in a hurry, think of all the fighting that wouldn't be...even today.

I'm not sure what you meant on the last there, but if you are saying that Ishmael's kids should be the chosen ones, well, you would get into what would have been traditional in those days, versus the promise of God. Which is greater? I'll go with Gods word, or promise. Sara is the one, and Abraham by listening to her... who messed up the plan ...(maybe this is disrespectful, but come on--old man with wife's consent gets to do the maid... what was he thinking???It certainly wasn't what God had asked him to think...) God said "I will do it", and Abe and Sara decided "We will." But God, Jehovah, who is bound to keep His word, had promised Isaac, not Ishmael, and therefore promised Isaac the blessing. The promise was to Abrahams son, and Sara by default- she is the wife- becomes a part of the plan, so when she had Abe go outside God's plan, she made her own plan which-- God didn't promise to bless.

NO NO NO You kinda have it twisted a little.

The names of the guys with the bowl of "chili" were Jacob and Esau. Jacob's name was later changed to Israel.

Abraham's sons names were Isaac and Ishmael. This was before the time of Isaac and and Jacob

Yes they are part of the Israel lineage.

1) Esau.

2) Abraham's sons were Ishmael and Isaac; only Isaac received Abraham's blessing, since he was the product of the union God chose to bring forth Abraham's seed. Ishmael did not receive the blessing of producing the "chosen people," but he received a blessing from God that he would father many great nations (i.e. arabs).

3) Yes, only Esau's decendents are God's "chosen people."

Okay, the two sons of Abraham were Issac and Ishmael (Issac from his wife, and Ishmael was the son of him and his wife's maid.) Issac then had two sons, Jacob and Esau. Jacob made the stew, impersonated his brother, and got the birthrite.
