I know exactly what you mean, when you give your baby a bath scrub gently to exfoliate then apply vasoline. My mother always suggested using crisco grease but vasoline and exfoliating is just as good but you must do this daily. For at least 2 weeks apply vasoline twice daily.

My mother always sat me in the tub with one of those big brushes and scrubbed my knees and elbows with soap and water. When I got out she would use vaseline to put on them. They are still nice to this day- and that is how i take care of my children's knees/elbows. I have also used an exfoliant type cream on my baby- for some reason his looked worse than the others! (he just turned 2), i am thinking that it is because my older two are much darker than him- he has a medium brown complexion.

Good luck!

Not likely anything you can do about it. Skin color can change, due to genetics. Enjoy him as he is.

A funny story for you, though, illustrating the point.

A neighbor came home from the hospital one night, banging on my door, visibly shaken. His wife had just given birth to their son, his namesake.

He said to me, "That's NOT my baby! That's a WHITE baby, not my baby!" Young Andre was indeed a pale reflection of his very dark father.

I assured him that it was indeed his baby, his wife hadn't been cheating on him, and the baby would darken up nicely. He wasn't sure, but drank a beer with me anyway, and eventually seemed reassured. Within a couple weeks little Andre was as dark as his proud papa!

Color can and does change! It's REALLY not all that important. What IS important is that you love that boy and teach him to be a good person, reliant and responsible!

Use an exfoliator on him gently. St. Ives has a good one, and very affordable.

Constantly moisturize - with lotion that has oatmeal like Aveeno

They get darker if it's extra dry there. Apply more lotion.

Scrub them nice and clean. :)

It'll take a while, just keep at it.
