Its fine for you to do it. BUT for the first time, ask the vet to teach you how to do it when you take you puppy in for it's shots! If you happen to be done with the seriese of shots that your puppy needs, stop in i'm sure they wont mind showing you! Ask them to let you try so you can make sure your doing it right!!
TIP: if you do try it and you do make him bleed... it is not the end of the world (although the puppy may scream)... it dose hurt! But if you do, you can use baking powder or flour to stop the bleeding! Just hold it there untill it stops. Try to keep the puppy calm, b/c if he gets to jumpy the high blood pressure may make it start bleeding again!!

Yes - the younger you start getting them used to it the better. Be very gentle with the feet, talk reassuringly to the puppy, and clip just a tiny bit off at a time. If the nails are white it'll help because you can see where the quick is (the red part) - you need to be careful not to cut too close to it. Take your time and if the puppy is too restless to let you do all 4 feet at once, that's ok for now, it's more important he realize this isn't a bad experience.

yes you should start now because if you don't you will have bunches of problems when you try to do it again. play with the pups feet every chance you get. the more you play with the feet the better chance you have of doing the nails again. every time that the pup lets you do it then reward him with a treat to let him know that he did good. i breed golden retreivers and i start their nail clipping when they are around 3 weeks old so that when they go to new homes they are ready for the new owners to do it, and that they are not scared. good luck

if you are unsure of where to cut.. stop by a pet store like Super Pet or Pet smart.... they do it for a reasonable price... OR there are clippers available at Walmart that somehow have a sensor and tell you where not to cut....
If you cut too far they will bleed...
Best of luck

Better to let your groomer or vet do it at that age. They have a vein in it and they can bleed quite abit if you cut it too short.

Just take the tips off. Do it every week so he will get used to it and not give you problems.
