No they don't.

It states clearly that we do not know anything. It is as if we are asleep. We do not "go" anywhere. Our Spirit (breathe see Genesis 2:7) returns to God. This is literally the air we breathe that sustains our life.
We do not get our "just reward" at the time of death - see Eccl. below.

I also want you to know that when Jesus comes we will all be raised up to see Him. - 1Cor & 1 Thes. below

I have also included some Bible quotes regarding death being a sleep.

Hope this helps. I no longer worry about someone being in hell and suffering or being in heaven suffering because they are watching their loved ones going through rough times.

John 11:11. These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. 12. Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well. 13. Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep. 14. Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.

Ecclesiastes 9: 5. For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward;

Luke 8: 52. And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth. 53. And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead.

1 Cor. 15:51. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52. In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

MY FAVORITE
1 Thes. 4:13. But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 15. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent (go before) them which are asleep. 16. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believer in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

"He that believer on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believer not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him." John 3:36

"There was a certain rich man which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day; And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom; the rich man also died, and was buried: and in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame..." Luke 16:19-31

Before Christ's Resurrection, the believers were in an area of the earth where they could see hell. When Christ was resurrected he brought all of the believers out of this "place of the dead" and took them to heaven. Now the believers are in heaven, but the unbelievers are still cooking in hell.

I hope this helps answer your question. When we die our body goes to sleep, but our soul goes directly to heaven or hell. The day will come when our body and soul will be reunited.

For Christians I know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. I am not sure what the scripture is for that but I believe it is true.

I am not well versed enough to talk about this so I hope you receive better answers.

God Bless.

I'm sorry, I have no scriptural references to cite in my answer, but my belief is strong, nonetheless. I think before we pass thru to heaven or hell, we all get a free one hour bonus shopping spree at the store of our choice. This is in order to bring along nice and appropriate things into the afterlife, like fans and fire extinguishers (in my case) and maybe halo polish in your case.
Respectfully, Clarkie

No. They have not been judged yet. When Jesus Assended to heaven he said I go to prepare a place for you and will come again. If he isnt done how could you go there. He also talked of a spirit prison (Prison is also world). I believe when we die good and bad we go to that spirit world until Christ's second coming.

Oh, one more point there. First the dead in christ will rise to heaven...they arent there yet. And its not talking the body as we receive our new bodies

From the way it was explained to me WAY back in Sunday school was that people are kinda sent to the Limbo version of the DMV between the Pearly Gates and Hell. And people (souls) have to take a number, spiritually speaking of course.

They wait in line until their number is called, then they go to get judged on whatever they did in life.

Depending on their Heavenly report card they either get sent to the Paradise Estates of the Holy Hotel, or they end up in a sleazy dive off of Route 666 in Motel Hell.

Actually when you die,if you dont know Jesus you do go to Hell,as the rich man did in the book of Luke chapter 16, but if you have Jesus and have been born again you will sleep in your grave until Jesus comes back and when the trumpet sounds you will be resurrected with a new immortal body

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

You must be born again by accepting Jesus as your savior, in order to ever see the kingdom of God. It is a commitment you make to Jesus where you change your sinful lifestyle and life rightously and in obedience to the word of God.

How do you know what that word is???

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

To rightly divide the word means to fully understand it. Ask God to open it up to you before you read it, and He will.

Those who do not accept Jesus as their savior will be among those who this scripture applies to. All those who followed satan are his fals prophets.

Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

I hope this was helpful.

actually in the old testament when a person died they went to paradise which is almost similar to the modern concept of purgatory. Old testament saints, were called sleeping or asleep.Jesus took them to heaven shortly after he died. when a person in this era dies they go straight to heaven if they are saved to be present with the lord.

a LOT OF people think they do but the bible says that when Jesus comes back, the dead in Christ will rise first and go to meet him in the sky. So that indicates to me that they couldnt have already been with him from the point of death. Hope that answers it.
