I think so too! I say we all call our congressman and ask them to do something

For the same reason December 7Th is not a holiday. Now what that reason is, is a mystery to me, but what ever it is I agree. A time of remembrance or a memorial service but we have enough holidays, at least in my opinion.
Additionally, it has only been 5 years so I don't see the window being closed yet. If enough people get involved it could happen. If you really support such an action you might want to set up a web page and take the temperature of the public on the issue. Results (assuming they are positive) can then be forwarded to your elected representatives for consideration and possible action.
So go get 'em and Good Luck.

We usually celebrate a holiday and i don't think people would want to celebrate the events of September 11th. Yet there is memorial day, so maybe a memorial day for 9/11 would be ok.

Because there is nothing to celebrate on 9/11. Every other holiday, even the ones that have to do with wars have a victory to celebrate.
There is nothing good about this day.

I agree with greeneyeddevil. Besides, we have a short attention span. Otherwise, we'd also celebrate Pearl Harbor Day. But for everyone else, lets not think that because something horrible happened that day, it would be crazy to celebrate it. Every year we celebrate the day that the pilgrims were treated to dinner by the Native Americans, right before they killed them and took their homes.

OK. How about a holiday for the times the American government killed the Natives? That should be a week long celebration, don't you think? Oh, yeah. Corn, fish, and venison for all. Oh, that's right. That is thanksgiving. No.

The government doesn't want to have to pay employees for another holiday off. Same reason they refuse to install a Cesar Chavez holiday in the month of March.

Holiday is a conjunction of the two words Holy Day.
It would hardly be appropriate to call something as evil as the recent attacks on America holy.

Are not Holidays meant for celebrations? You want to celebrate the fact that we were attacked by Terrorist? What holiday do we celebrate now for wrong doings?

Chris D, you beat me to it - we don't celebrate December 7, 1941. After all, it was quoted that it was a "day that will live in infamy". There is nothing to celebrate, and a holiday is meant to celebrate a joyous occasion.

we are doing plenty enough remembering without making it a holiday. most of the kids would just stay home and watch cartoons. we dont need another tragedy to create an excuse for backyard cookouts.
