YES... if you are taking it, don't even THINK about drinking alcohol because that is some bad stuff when you mix it with booze.

If it doesn't kill you to drink when you are taking antabuse, you will WISH it would have killed you.

Disulfiram is a drug used to support the treatment of chronic alcoholism by producing an acute sensitivity to alcohol. Trade names for disulfiram in different countries are Antabuse and is manufactured by Odyssey Pharmaceuticals. Disulfiram is also being studied as a treatment for cocaine dependence , as it prevents the breakdown of dopamine (a chemical stimulated by cocaine hcl) resulting in increased anxiety, blood pressure, restlessness and other unpleasent symptoms.

Under normal metabolism, alcohol is broken down in the liver by the enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase to acetaldehyde, which is then converted by the enzyme acetaldehyde dehydrogenase to the harmless acetic acid. Disulfiram blocks this reaction at the intermediate stage by blocking the enzyme acetaldehyde dehydrogenase. After alcohol intake under the influence of disulfiram the concentration of acetaldehyde in the blood may be 5 to 10 times higher.

I drank 3 beers on antabuse. I had to call an ambulance and I was terribly sick. That was back in my drinking days. I wouldn't recommend it unless you are definitely on the wagon. It's dangerous.....)(

You should not use Antaeus unless directly under doctors care. It is very dangerous and there have been many die because of it. No I have not used it and had no need to. I do know three that did and two are dead now. Yes, they took the drug and for a while did alright but finally they just had to have the night out and drink. Both were dead by the next morning. They were not under doctors care. The third was under doctors care and had some bouts of being very ill but is alive and doing well. Do not be your own doctor.
