I was just wondering. Most people hate math but some people love it. Is it really fair to force kids to learn things they don't want to? Or, do you really just put up with it? Are you on my side (hate math) Or do you want to prove me wrong? All answers welcome!

It is a real mystery. Math just immediately makes sense to some people, and some other people just don't get it at all.
When we were living in caves, it didnt make a darn bit of difference. But now, wow! it seems like everything is completely full of math. Obviously, you can;'t do any kind of science, medicine, engineering, etc without a huge amount of math. And you can't really run most businesses too well unless you are comfortable with basic math and word problems. So not knowing math really, really limits your career opportunities.
I always liked what a famous basketball player said about learning stuff you don't like. He said he hated playing defense, he just like to shoot, but his coach told him he could never have a career until he could play defense. How can I learn it, he said, I hate it! His coach said, the secret to being good is to learn to love to do things you are bad at, and then you will get good at them. The player said later that he learned to love to practive defense -- that was Grant Hill!

I love Math and Science. English and History are my downfalls. Yes, all kids should learn these things. Maybe you don't like it because you're not being taught in a way to make you understand. The best Math teachers I've had are the ones who hated it, mainly because they know easy ways to remember things and can show you short cuts. People who understand it easily normally can't teach you anything because they can't understand why you have a problem with it.

I find it hard to appreciate (and therefore comprehend) when it comes to the abstract symbolisms of algebra and calculus. But when I can relate it to a concrete reality with a clear idea of its manifestation in my environment, I feel no problem. Hence I have a liking for statistics and geometry in my early school years.

i hate math. i think simple math should be taught, but unless you plan on using it later in life, like doctors, engineers and such, why should we go further in math? i am not using algebra or any hard math in my present job.
