I was wondering because I dont have a built in HD tuner in my projection TV like the newer models will I still be able to take advantage of the newer HDTV DVD players, or would it be a waist of money?

Yes, connecting a hi-def DVD player to your HDTV-Ready will display a hi-def picture. HDTV-Ready means your tv has the ability to display hi-def but it needs a hi-def source, ie, HD DVD player. A built-in HD tuner is only for local hi-def programming.

An HD DVD player will work with an HD ready TV. The DVD player doesn't require a tuner, just a component or HDMI connection.

Technically you cannot. As per my research component will allow you to recieve 480/720/1080 i/p but not HD formats like blue ray and hd dvd

With the next wave of HD dvd players, i really doubt it if they would be using that format. The PS3 would have component as an option but as you know, consoles dont really make good dvd players and you would not be able to have blue ray dvd's through component due to copy protection issues.

As far as memory serves me, these new players (read blue ray and hd dvd) will be using HDMI which basically passes on the audio and the video in the same cable(due to copy protection issues aka HDCP - high definition content protection). In that case, you might have problems if your tv does not have HDMI or HDCP capable DVI inputs (which i am guessing it might not).

The good news is that your normal (SD- standard definition) DVD's will look really good.

You will be able to upconvert your normal dvd's but you will not be able to recieve the best quality from your hd dvds.

Hi. HD requires a proper jack and cable from the player to your monitor.
