Yes, it is all worthy, it is the divinely inspired word of God who changes his mind constantly and doesn't always approve of what he once thought was good to do......

Wait...

That makes no sense, please disregard.

No everything from the bible is not worthy and much of it has been twisted to justify what we deem as socially unacceptable acts like burning people at the stake. You have a good point with the words 'common' and 'sense'. Perhaps if people really look at what is being said some of that will appear.

At this time in history, it was necessary to make examples of people who disobeyed God's law. You have to remember that at this time they had not only to punish malefactors, but to turn a nation of slaves into a God's pilot program for nationhood.

We know the Bible is true because the people there were not perfect or heroes, but ordinary and sometimes very stubborn people. The Holy Spirit did not need to embroider His stories, since they were true.

For instance, you mentioned Tamar. She was an ancestress of Jesus.

I think that a full study of these passages is worthy. It may generate some thought about just how loving God is. And if this OT God is so extreme, how did he turn into such a loving God in the NT? Oops, here I go again. Oh, while you research sense and common, add REASON to the list, pahleeeease!

Thumbs down. You are always posting the Levitical Laws that were written for a harsher time. Apparently you have never experienced a country where might makes right. The laws of today would be too soft to handle the situation. Whose coat tails would you hide behind?

Yes, and like the Bible says, all those sinners who don't get burned should be stoned to death. But wait a minute, Jesus said "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone." But wait another minute, Jesus also said "every jot and tittle" of the old Testament was correct and would be fulfilled - which must include burning and stoning sinners and murdering at God's command. Bottom line - the Bible is a bunch of jumbled up, contradictory, barbaric tripe.

It doesnt say what kind of fire.Perhaps it means burnt in the everlasting lakes of fire in Hell. The old testament was fairly nutty though, the new testament however negates most of the old testament. So if you are trying to mock christianity you should stick with the new testament so at least it has some relevance.

When reading any religious or spiritual text, I feel it's important to contemplate the meaning of each passage, and how it relates to your individual life. We have brains, reasoning, experience, and opinions for a reason. We shouldn't just believe in an entire book on blind faith.

With that said, no christian bible for me. Granted, I haven't read a lot of it. But there's enough passages similar to the quotes above for me to know that christianity is not the faith for me. I'm a moral person, just not a moral AND christian person.

You are quoting from the Old Testiment. Time before Christ was a lot different being that their was no ultimate sacrifice for sins. People had to burn sacrifices in order to be cleansed. My opinion is that the number of sins was so great that they would eventually out number the animals of sacrifice and God had to deal with sinners by putting fear in thier minds and souls. If no one feared God, they would take advantage of His kindness and do what they please... Does that make sense for you?

The Bible, Quran and other old books contain wisdom that you can glean. But, they are like the small boat that gets us to the other side. Once there, we leave the boat behind.
