People live longer now and also I think its less expected now for a young woman to only be there to look after a family and the house, etc. You get the oppourtunity to progress yourselves in the way you want now, not just the way it is expected!

Don't get me wrong I think its right the way it is now and should have been at lot earlier on but sadly it wasn't! Anyway, make the most of it and progress yourselves and have children when you want them!

However, i don't agree with 60/70 year olds having kids even if it is medically possible! Thats not fair on the children! They could still be very young when the parents die of old age and i think a big responsibility of a parent is to prepare a child for their future and obviously they can't do all the things that younger parents would do with their kids due to being older!

However, i am a strange man who would love to be a house husband and raise the kids and do the housework (i would share it all now if we both worked anyway) while my partner progressed her work and herself in the way she wanted! You may think that is just because i'm lazy and i think thats the easy option but i know full well it isn't! I just always have and always will put what my partner wants first! Thats just the kind of person i am! It sounds like i think this is a dating site doesn't it! Ha Ha!

I'm 33 and just had my first child. He's now 2 months old. I opted to wait to finish school, gain some experience in my field and then to start my business. It was important for me to be able to be home with my kids when I chose to have them but I love what I do for work as well. The only answer for me was to establish my business, which is home based, so that I could be with them but still use my mind. Also a factor for me was that I have gone through a divorce and am on my second marriage. Naturally, I wanted to make sure my marriage was stable before introducing a new stressor.

I think the option to have children at an older age is also very regional. I use to live in California and you would see women of all ages pregnant. Here in Wyoming, I'm considered somewhat of an oddity since I'm not in my late teens or early 20's. Also, it's ok now for a woman to establish herself in a career whereas a few generations back, a woman's place was considered in the home.

Also a few decades ago it was just "understood" that men would be the primary breadwinners and women would take care of the home and family. Now days men are less motivated to be the primary breadwinners and alot are actually freeloaders that wont work at all and depend on women. I am 29 and pregnant and have a very supportive husband with a good job. I work as well but it took me this long to become financially stable enough to have a baby.

The typical response about women holding off on having children because of higher education and starting careers is correct. I also believe that it's harder now in society to connect with the ideal spouse, so that also slows down the family process. Also, couples want to establish financial security and wealth (and also travel extensively) now prior to starting a family.

I personally think that women should NOT BE HAVING CHILDREN AFTER AGE 32. It is reprehensible that women in their mid- to late 30s and early 40s are having children. I see all these old people around with 8-year-olds and it disgusts me.

If you missed the boat by age 32 because of your educational, travel or career aspirations, then you should accept it and not bring children into the world. Older parents aren't good parents because they're too tired and lax to be effective disciplinarians.

There are many reasons; financial, career, not meeting the right man! I had my 2 kids at 37 and 39 for all the above reasons. I wouldn't have wanted to have children any earlier - I was having too much fun! It's hard work at my age and if I was 10 years younger, I'd have more kids, but 2 under 4 is enough for me.

Women have more control over their lives and more choices. Just 3 decades ago it was expected that a woman married early, had children and stayed home...that isn't the case now. If I could do it over again, I'd wait 10 more years before I started having kids.

Many people are getting married later on in life now due to schooling or jobs. Also, with the advance of medical science, it is no longer a mystery until the birth of their child if it is not healthy, what sometimes happens when older women have children.

I'm 40 and pregnant. I think a lot of women chose to pursue careers before having a family. However, in my case, this was a surprise baby.

Also, with medical technology the way it is today, it's much safer to have children at an older age than it used to be.

I really dont know my mum had her 3rd child at 38 and she went threw test after test which put straign on here pregnancy, its also known that older women are more likely to have multiple pregnancies. But i dont know if this is true as i fell pregnant at 18 with twins with no family history! Im glad i had my children young i will live to see more off there life. I dont believe in parents who put there careers first. Children are the best things in life.

1. Women are now pursuing successful careers and are marrying later.
2. The cost of bringing up a child is so expensive you need to have a lot of excess income over expenditure to afford one
3. Birth control is practised more widely and the methods used are more reliable
4. They see how horrible kids are nowadays and make a conscious decision not to be responsible for any additions to the mob!
