The difference between bubble gum and chewing gum is the gum base. Chewing gum base is a natural gum called chicle harvested from the sap of a tropical tree called a sopapilla tree. This kind of gum is chewy but it will not blow a large bubble. Bubble gum base, on the other hand, is a mixture of starches and polymers made in a laboratory and specially formulated to blow bubbles.
Chewing gum is a type of confectionery which is designed to be chewed instead of swallowed. Traditionally, it was made of chicle, a natural latex product, although for reasons of economy and quality many modern chewing gums use petroleum-based polymers instead of chicle.
Bubblegum is a type of chewing gum that is especially designed for blowing bubbles. It is usually pink in color and has a particular flavor. Bubble gum tends to be more viscous than standard chewing gum in order to facilitate bubble blowing.

You can blow bubbles with bubble gum like hubba bubba. You can only chew chewing gum like trident. Unless of course you eat a whole package of trident then you may be able to blow a bubble or two. In other words, the size of the piece of gum is the big difference...though I'd think bubble gum may have a bit more of that elastic stuff in it.

The history of modern chewing gums begins in 1869, when a New York inventor by the name of Thomas Adams was introduced to chickle (the latex of the sapodilla tree) from Central and South America. Chicle is a latex, a milky, water-based plant fluid that carries tiny droplets of long, coiled carbon-hydrogen chains. These chains have the property of being elastic: they uncoil and stretch out when pulled, but snap back when released. The best known of these latex substances is rubber. Adams got the idea of using chicle as a gum base, and patented chicle gum in 1871. With sugar and sassafras or licorice flavourings, it quickly caught on. By 1900, entrepeneurs with such names as Fleer and Wrigley had developed gumballs and peppermint and spearmint flavours, and in 1928 a Fleer employee perfected bubble gum by developing a very elastic latex mixture from longer hydrocarbon polymers..
So the long and the short of it is.. bubble gum has longer polymers..
