The Farmers in india are mainly poor and exploited thus they dont have money to invest in better variets of seeds, fertilizers etc.

Modern system has contributed to many a problem.
because Agriculture was one main business in india.. each farmer has unknowling contributed to pesticide residues on agricultural produce, on all the water they use for irrigation on the course they have made india a unhealthy population.. by slowly but on a pro-longed exposure to chemicals to humans inthe way.. they contributed creating an unhealthy individuals.
Now every water resource is almost infested with pesticide chemails.
Every plant modified with bio-technology has contributed to more insect popluation..
and too much of cattle population.. even the milching cow give milk with pesticide..
add to that.. softdrinks.. also.. get their share of pesticide residue.. hence an unhealthy population of indians..
