she's 11... 6th grade and a cheerleader she hates har legs, I'm pretty sure all the other girls shave, but don't want her to feel like I'm letting her shave because the others do.I do want her to feel confident.A couple of the other girls said a few things to her about it..and wearing make up but thats out of the question for now.

My Mom let me shave the first time I asked her about it. I believe I was 12. I had already started my period and I was very self conscious about my body. (breasts growing and hips filling out). So when I mentioned the hair on my legs I think she realized it would make me feel more in control of things. After all, here was something I COULD control. I couldn't stop the period, the budding breasts, the hips filling out, but I could shave the hair. lol

My mother refused to let me shave my legs until I was 12 (now I wax though; shaving didn't work out that great for me after the first year). I was self conscious about it, 'cause all the other girls in school were already shaving their legs, so I just wore pants to school. But if she's a cheerleader, that might be kind of difficult for her to do. Just have a talk with her about it. If she's really self conscious about it and friends are making comments, then you might wanna consider letting her start. It may sound silly to let her do it 'cause everyone else is, but believe me, such a little thing like not shaving her legs can easily make her life miserable. Kids are cruel.

I think I tried around 11-13, sometime in middle school, I do not remember. I really regret it afterwards, because it made my hair grow thicker and much more than before. How bad are her legs? Can you see the hair from far away or you have to be up close? Well if it's not too bad, leave it alone. If you're gonna do something about it, I suggest waxing. Buy a wax heater and choose the appropriate wax from Sally's Beauty Supply and try it at home. Waxing thins out my hair with every use, much better than shaving.

I let my daughter start shaving her legs in 6th grade. I too was concerned it was too early. I recall I started shaving mine in 7th grade and I remember the conversation with my mother. We were on vacation and sitting on the back porch of a cabin we were staying in. I said "Mom I think its time for me to start shaving my legs" She said "No I don't think so. Why would you want to start doing that?" I said "Well I can feel the hair on my legs blowing in the wind and if I can feel that and it bothers me - it's not too early." I got an electric shaver before school started that year because my mom thought an electric shaver would be safer than a real razor. Electric razors never really worked that well. I let my daughter use the Shick Intuition with the gel/soap around the edges because I felt that was easy and safe. There are a few other things you can look forward to - tampons, hair coloring, sculpted eyebrows and bikini waxing. I think teenage girls should be comfortable with their bodies and we should help guide them in taking care and advantage of all our world has to offer them when they step forward and ask. If you don't they'll just get the info from their friends.

I was around 11 or 12 when I started shaving my legs, and I don't have a daughter, only a son, and believe me, he doesn't shave his legs. If I had a daughter I would probably let her start around the same age as I was when I started.

I've never heard of having to give someone permission to shave. Personal hygene should not be a question of when one's parents allow one to do it. Buy her a nice lady's shaver and some moisturizer and leave her be. I agree with the others -- usually around the time they start puberty. Depending on the girl, that could be as early as 11 or so.
