Two days ago my dog (15lbs bichon frise/lhasa mix) jumped off my couch and hit the coffee table. He started crying and all. After it all, I had him walk and notice that he was limping. I checked it out, i stretched it, rubbed it, moved it left to right, moved it up and down, massage, etc. He was fine he didn't show any sign of it hurting. There is no bruising, swelling, etc. Later that night I touched it a certain way and he whimpered a little but besides that he is fine just not walking on all fours. I am really thinking that he just hurt his leg a little and its sore right now therefore he isn't walking on it. I am thinking that there is no serious damage done. I was thinking about letting him rest up for a few more days and if it doesn't get better then take him to the vet. I am just very tight on cash right now and really don't wanna take him in if it is something that will just heal on its own....

Also just to note, my dog is 8 months old, and like d957jazz said (which i agree with) "sprain and bruises on humans don't cure immediately” as well so i figure to give it some time. This is my first dog ever and i have come to realize that dogs are very much like humans therefore i was in the same mind frame as what d957jazz said. In regards to what deaddeerny said, my vet honestly doesn't know much about my dog as he has only gone there once for shots. So they know just about as much as we all do thus far. =) I think i will give it a few days and if i don’t see a change of improvement i will def. take him in and see if i can do payments or something *sigh*. I really appreciate everyone's opinion and advice. THANK YOU!!

After two day's I would be at least calling the vet and asking him what he think's. He could have a cracked bone or torn cartlidge or a seperation or pulled tendon, or any number of different thing's. The vet will most likely tell you to bring him in, better safe than sorry. You don't want to allow him to be in pain any longer than necessary. I know you love him and want what's best and money is a concern. Many times I've had to take one in when fund's were low. I do understand that problem.Good luck.

I would give him a couple of days. If he was a big dog/puppy, maybe not because they gain weight so quickly it can cause a bone to break if they have a fall, but at 15 lbs I would think it might just be tender. I have taken a shepherd puppy in for the same thing and $450 later I had a puppy with a splint which stayed on approximately 5 minutes. Now I give it a couple of days unless the dog won't put the leg down or any weight on it at all.

If in 24-48 hours he is not putting ANY pressure on it...make an appt. If he is just limping, then rest, rest rest him. No play, it must heal. There are a couple pain relievers you can give, but call your vet for the dose. I am never comfortable giving a dose over the computer to a pet that we have no history on...if it continues then you will have to take him in...If you have a good standing with your vet, they may do payment options. Atleast call the vet today for more info, ask them the exact same question. They may knkow your pet better than us in "computer land" every case is different...Good Luck!

your doing the right thing to many people at the first sign of as i call it a sniffle go to the vet and that takes up vets time for serious things do not get me wrong i believe in using a vet but not for something that is not necessary..i would keep my eye on it if it persists i would take him to the vet...but sprain and bruises on humans don't cure immediately so give it some time

my dog did something slimar but he was ok within a hour.

i would take him to the vet sounds he he hurt himself pretty bad, ask the vet if he`ll take payment plans, somethimes if its your regular vet they will take payments.

i know this because i had to call my vet for my horses they all needed their teeth floated times that by 4 and ouch.
my vet lets me pay them in payments, i have also been dealing with the same vet for 12 years now.

i would get him checked, i would say anything after 1 day of limping should be looked at.

TAKE HIM 2 THE VET!!!!!!!
Something must have happened 4 him 2 limp. I know your tight on cash, but maybe you could ask someone at: school, work, church, anywhere 4 donations. Some people will really take into a good cause. But that's just my advice.

If your dog is limping and wimpers when you touch the injured area after two days, you need to take him to the vet now. Ask your vet to work out a payment plan with you.

How would we almost certainly comprehend why your canine is limping. Inform your irresponsible sister, who used to be not supervising the dogs to take this canine to the vet. He may have been hit by way of a auto.

I agree with you in giving it a few days. Dogs are always banging their legs on something and bruising them. If he still isn't putting weight on it after another day or so, I'd definitely be taking him in though because if it's just bruising, he should walk on it.
