Well, Everyone has given answers for dried coconuts. If your talking about getting the water out of the coconut, its best to use a machete. It's easier to open the coconut from the bottom, using diagonal downward motion. After you achieve a peak, proceed to cut across the top. Sucess is rewarded with a squirt of water, resulting form the release of pressure.

Drill a hole in the top where it has like a soft indent and drain out the coconut milk which you may wish to save for cooking. Put the nut on something hard like the sidewalk wrapped in a towel and break it up with a hammer.

I put a hole in the top of it and take out all the milk. def save this part, it is really good. then i take a hammer and a flat head screw driver and make little marks all around the coconut. when you've mad ethe marks go to the opposite end of the hole and hit it hard with the hammer and the screw driver. This works for me. it should come open.

put a couple of holes in the top where the indents are to drain the coconut milk. then take a hammer and tap around the middle. when you get all the way around it will crack open.

what i do is use a knife and chop the top off. you just start hitting the top until you can peel it open. but i do it just enough so i can scoop the coconut with my spoon...i just drink the coconut juice with a straw. ^^

you have to take the milk out first...the nut has a part that's not so hard, you can pierce it through there and get the milk out. also, parts around that area will break easier...you can start from there...

you need to put a hole in the top first to drain the milk out, then just bash it with something stirdy to crack it, kind of like you would crack an egg to peel.
