Think of it like this... If a guy walks up to you I says, "I want to kill you" and then puches you in the face and you do nothing to defend yourself he is going to keep hitting you till you die or stop him.

In my opinion the other answers are beating around the answer but not really there yet. I am currently serving in the army with the 101st Screaming Eagles. I have been deployed to both countries(Afghanistan, and Iraq). Even if we didnt do anything the terrorists would still have attacked after 9-11-06. Their is nothing we could have done to stop the terrorists attack on 9-11 or any of the other attacks that have transpired since then. You got too look at it like this. A Super Star atthlete is always in the spotlight with the media because of his popularity right? He or she is always questioned for what they are doing or not doing on and off the field. Its the same thing with the US we will always be questioned and not liked because of what we do or dont do. No matter what is going on some people will say we should get involved others will say we shouldnt. It doesnt really matter what other people say as long as you do what you think is the best for the country. I agree with President Bush's order to invade Afghanistan and Iraq. It needed to be done to set an example for the other terrorists around the world. Some of the things done over here are not very good but until you are over here and have an idea of the people and the culture you cant form an honest and fair opinion on the subject. The world would be the same old place just different countries and different people.

The world supported us in Afghanistan and still would to this day if we had not invaded Iraq which didn't have any terrorist to speak of. Certainly not like the terrorist Iraqi's have today we've brought nothing but destruction to Iraq hence the reason why the world is very ticked at us now. The difference in Iraq and Afghanistan can be seen in the forces sent to each country in Afghanistan we have NATO. In Iraq we have a coalition of bribed arm twisted and those hoping to get in our good graces by sending the minimum number of troops, usually non-combat troops coalition of the willing my ass. So if we had just hit Afghanistan we would enjoy a much higher standing in the world than we do today and we wouldn't be fighting in big cities like we do in Iraq.

A large portion of our population is not really paying attention to what goes on. Prior to 9/11 there were many warnings and an actual declaration of war against the western civilizations. There is an actual letter from Bin Laden saying exactly what he intends to do and his overall goal of the conversion to Islam of infidels. The US takes the lead because we are viewed at the great Satan. Remember that there were other attacks on us prior to 5 years ago. There was Kobar Towers, the 1st Trade Center bombings in 93, the USS Cole attack, bombings of two US embassies in Africa and the list goes on.
Once there was this declaration we, as a country, needed to respond. Both Afganistan and Iraq have produced intel that continues to this day to bear fruit and lead to the connecting of dots and the tracking down of cells and co-conspirators. May I say to those people who do not see any connection (especially those Bush haters) that I much prefer we go to them than they come to us. Frankly, Iraq-Iran-Syria. Did it really matter what country became the fly in point for our people to get into the theatre of operations? If it does matter to you, please provide your address so we may direct those Jihadists to the correct neighborhoods.
I am willing to bet that the same fight that goes on today would be happening in any region over there that we would have chosen. If you think this war is because we are there, you need only look a little deeper to realize the fight was coming no matter what. You can stick your head in the sand but it does not mean you won't get your butt shot off.

It would be raining terrorists.
Nothing breeds confidence like success , show you can suceed and watch people line up to join you .
The UN , you have to be kidding !
Half the deligates had to be shown how to use a toilet when they got here . They commit crimes and hide behind diplomatic immunity and feel above the law .
Time to turn that building into something usefull , a homeless shelter or a parking lot . New York could use either .

To be blunt - the world would "be" pretty much as it always has been, but would hold the US to be a country of not only ugly Americans but weak ones as well.
Let me put it into a personal perspective; When you watch your favorite team play their best and still lose a sporting event you may be disappointed but you don't hate them. If they did little to nothing and lost how would you think about them?
