You must not have been reading the Bible because there is not mention of Isaac killing his twin sons, Esau and Jacob.
Instead of reading things ABOUT the Bible why not try actually reading the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. And don't give up when you THINK that God has done wrong.
When I started reading the Bible from cover-to-cover I did think for a while that if I were God I would not have been so harsh but as I continued reading I learned that God is good ALL of the time. It is mankind that does the horrifying things and I couldn't believe that the uncreated Creator of the universe didn't wipe mankind out long ago.
Instead He sent a Savior! Our heavenly Father is awesome and not wanting even one person to be lost eternally. He is waiting for you to draw near to Him because He loves you.

No wonder you write God with a small g.God only asked Isaac to do this coz he wanted to know wether He really was first in Isaac's heart. You shouldnt just be disgusted.I could be too but you have to know the reason why things are done and that way,you will understand better.
Read Proverbs 4 to 6 and see what is says on wisdom and understanding.

First of all you must understand that our love for God is only innocence, not virtue, until it is tested and proven. What is your mettle until you get to prove it? Therefore God was giving Abraham a chance to show his love for God was above all else.
It wasn't that Abraham had no principles. But being a Christian means having faith in God, above all things, and that your love is unconditional, just as His love is for us. If Abraham was spineless, as you say, he would have told God that he had not the courage to kill his son even if it's what God wants.
In the end, God did not allow Abraham to kill his son, but gave him a sacrificial animal instead that appeared out of the woods.
The moral of the story is this: that your love and trust for God should be above all else, and you must have faith in Him. When the moment of testing comes, you must be strong in the ways of God to prove that your love is really a virtue for God. Whatever that God asks you to do, you must have trust, for God will not ask you to do anything that is against His laws. You are made in His image, and His love and mercy will follow you forever; His goodness will pass before you if you seek it.

People don't talk about "the fear of god" for nothing. The Christian god provides for a utopia in the afterlife, provided you give this life to following his orders. I don't think the god (especially of the old testament) was really all that concerned with being a "nice guy." I mean, he's god, does he really have to have a good bedside manner? Nope, he's "God," he can do what he wants.
Since I have never met this God, I find it difficult to predict what I would do in similar circumstances, but I don't think I would be likely to go along with an order to kill my son, regardless.

Umm, Isaac was the son and it was Abraham that was going to kill him. God did not allow him to kill Isaac but it was a test of his faith and obedience to God. Isaac was a child of promise, Sarah was well past child bearing years when he was born.

Thank God you were not Isaac!
Isaac know (for gone conclusion) that if he slayed his son, God would raise him up!
If he did not go to slay his son he Isaac would be a curse upon the earth!

You're confusing Isaac and Abraham (peace be upon them). Also, the correct son God asked Abraham to sacrifice was Ishmael, not Isaac.
Basically, it was to prove to Abraham and the world how loyal Abraham was to God's command and that he loved God above all. In the end, God accepted Abraham's intention and switched his son with a sheep or lamb.
The lesson is that when one love God above all, God rewards them.

god put issac thru a test of faith. you should remember that the bible was written by man, who chose what to write about and how to write it. many "books" of the bible arent even included in many bibles. nothing was explained , no idea what the thoughts of issac or god. i fact i kinda feel that this story is more "mans version" then what actually happened. certainly in todays world i wouldnt do it if "commanded to by voices" - i'd run for the nearest psycho ward for a check up first.

Do you mean Abraham? Since Issac was a miracle baby, then Abraham knew that God would raise Issac back to life. (Faith)
