As far as I'm concerned it is an act of possession imposed upon women to give the men of that culture a feeling of dominance and superiority.
If you can't keep your willy in your pants, it's not in reason to cover up the instance of temptation in such a way.

A burqa (also burka or burqua) is a type of opaque veil sometimes worn in addition to a headscarf by Muslim women observing purdah.
Similar to a niqab, the burqa covers the wearer's entire face except for a small region about the eyes. A full burqa or Afghan burqa is a garment that conceals the entire body. The full burqa includes a "net curtain", which also hides the wearer's eyes. During the Taliban's reign in Afghanistan, women were required to wear a full burqa.
Women in some Muslim societies or subcultures wear burqa because of exegetic interpretations of the hijab. Standards for modest dress (sartorial hijab) for Muslim women and men vary greatly depending on the cultural context.

The burqua was and is essential wear for the harem women to wear outside the harem in order to keep them anonymous and hopefully exclusive to their owner.
Those who could keep a harem were mostly rich and powerful men who must keep their women exclusive as it would be very bad if rumours went abroad that a man was a poor lover or had a small penis. As is usually the case whatever the rich do today others will copy tomorrow and a fashion will be born.
Because religion is routinely hijacked by the rich and powerful as an aid to government and the administration of the population and "to keep inferiors in their place" it didn't take long for fashion, tribal and regional practices to become integrated and confused with the religion and rationalised by those clever talkers who gain advantage by shifting emphasis and tinkering with the grammar of scripture (and other things) so millenia later few can tell the difference or guess the truth.
For me and millions of others the sight of the full burqua will always bring to mind a harem woman out on a day trip whatever claims are made on its behalf. For myself I have no problems with a headscarf to cover the hair; my own mother wore a headscarf, but I refuse to converse with anyone who has no face because ugly or beautiful the face is a person's identity.
Don't these women realise how hiding the face demeans and robs people who must converse with them, of their dignity; in fact demeans everyone concerned including the wearers of the burqua.

Women of Islamic faith are women who dress modestly.
It is a sign of I'm pretty serious about my faith. They do not exhibit themselves in a way to attract undesirable attention to themselves or to their bodies. They will not turn a mans head as they walk pass him. They will not make men fantasize over their body as they stand on a beach. Thus they protect themselves and protect a mans thoughts from sinning as well.
Why dont people pick on Nuns. They have nearly and equally the same habit.

I'm a Muslim girl. in our religion we are respected so much, in Islam, ladies are not a tool for advertising, or attracting men. in Islam ladies are told to hide their beauty from men, expect those who are called "maharem: mens that one can not marry, like father, brother, nephew & son", and after marriage their husband.
after all, we should not just were a black coverall, we can wear many colors, we should cover our bodies, but in any color! Hijab is not a limit for us, it gives us security outside.

Muslim men are afraid of women, point blank period. Their adolescent fantasies of virgins in the afterlife reeks of teenage boys' daydreams because they are too nervous to approach a real woman.

the original reason from the qoran was to give the women respect, if the men couldn't see their beautiful bodies they might listen to their intelligent conversation instead. does it work? probably not, but that's not for me to judge.

Muslim women are hot. They should be able to wear bikinis like the rest of us. The men who make them wear the hijab and burka, should have to wear them for themselves!
