A person's culture has to be a big influence on the person no matter what age. Different cultures have different ideas on the care for the elderly. For example, where I live in Puerto Rico people tend to take care of the elderly in their family themselves.
In the states the elderly often go to special residences for care and often don't even see their family so much.

The youth culture in the U.S. has done a great disservice in stereotyping older people as chronically ill, unable to work, behind the times, slow-thinking, and useless financial burdens on society. The idea that old people could actually fall in love or be in a loving relationship with each other is embarrassing to many Americans, old, young and in-between.
Older Americans are Vital. Not one of the above stereotypes are true. Americans over age 50 own, 75% of all American assets, and spend 1/2 the money, that keeps our economy going. A full 70% of these people own their own homes. They vote, are active in the community, to a greater extent than most young people, and they do fall in love with each other. So are the Elderly influenced? I don't believe so. It is also worth mentioning that the homes provided for their age group is usually a lonely existence, and its a terrible shame.
