Because the Hebrew word translated as "love" is 'âhab and it means to have affection for like a friend.

Micah 6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love ('âhab) mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

It's a word picture of always having a merciful attitude with you wherever you go as you walk with God. It means that when you are tempted to be unmerciful in your judgment of other people who cross your path in life that you defer to mercy as you would to a friend who was with you as opposed to taking the path of unmerciful judgment and thinking that you can offer up a sacrifice to atone for that type of sinful attitude.

Micah 6:7 Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? 8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

Did Jesus just go through the motions? He commands us to love as He has loved and to show mercy where He has shown mercy and to walk humbly as He has humbled Himself. These burdens are light..compared to carrying around hatred, vengance and arrogance. Don't you think so? Love in Christ, ~J~ <><

We all have a 'work' to do to achieve perfection of character. It is not 'onece saved, always saved', we Must Also Work for our salvation.
