One tragedy does not cancel out another tragedy.

If you remember correctly, when we heard of London being bombed, even before we entered the war, America sent pilots, supplies, whatever we could. I lost a grandmother in those skies.
When we dropped that horrific bomb, we hurried after with money, apologies, doctors, and anything else we could do. My grandfather's brothers went.

Every time a soldier drops down onto his cot, tired, frightened, and home sick, he remembers...

Pearl Harbor.
Nazi Death camps.
Hiroshima.
Red Square.
Trail of Tears.
Andersonvil.
Incas.
Alamo.

Why does 9-11 hit us so hard?

My uncle ran into those towers, axe, fire hose at the ready.
He and his brothers and sisters in arms were not there to fight for oil.
They were not there for religious believes.
They were not there because some war hungry government told them to be.
They were there because innocent people were dying. Because they heard and answered the call of those in need.
And, as Americans have done again and again, through out our history, they ran to help.

And they died.

They threw themselves in, even when they knew that chances were good that they wouldn't make it out, just for the chance to save a life.

Those men and women, fathers and mothers, some with their children along, who fought back against those terrorists who took their plane, knowing that they were fighting against the only men avaible to fly the plane. Choosing to die in a Penn. field rather than be used as a weapon against innocent people.

Why does 9-11 hit us so hard?

How do you feel when your hero is murdered?

I read your question and I can't help but shake my head.
Exactly how many people need to die to be worthy of mourning in your book?

What happened in New York was equivalent to the Japanese Empire attacking Pearl Harbor in WWII. It is not equivalent to the dropping of two atomic bombs on Japan. Japan helped plunge the world into a horrible war that killed millions of people. Its leaders, who were war criminals, would not surrender even after the fascists had been pretty much driven to Japan's home islands. Japan itself was preparing to attack the U.S. at the same time with a "dirty bomb." The only ones to blame for the dropping of two atomic bombs on Japan are the Japanese leaders themselves.

I always find it so unbelievable how some Japanese continue this fabrication of Japan's innocence in WWII. It sought to enslave the Pacific and eastern Asia, it sought to destroy an independent China and committed horrendous war crimes of extermination against the Chinese people, and it was little more than the lackey of Nazi Germany by attacking the U.S. in such a cowardly manner at Pearl Harbor.

What Japan did in WWII will never be forgotten by the world. As one of its criminal fascist leaders once said, they "have awakened a sleeping tiger" (the United States). How true that was then, and how true that is today.

9/11 is not exaggerated and no one forgot heroshima and nagasaki. The Second world war was not just about petrolem. WWII was very complex and to say it was just about petroleum is ignorance. No one kills innocents for joy. All kill because they think their ideas are paramount to others and these "innocents" stand in the way of their goals. People have always killed, are killing right now, and will kill in the future. One good thing is that dead people don't kill anymore. People eat dead animals and vegetarians are in denial of how many animals are killed during the harvesting of vegetables. Animals eat each other and would eat you if given an oportunity. We live in a world of killing. Killing things allows others to live. You are in denial that you have no hand in killing. Everything you do or say has a part in the world of killing. You cannot function in life without contributing in some way to killing someone or something. It is not possible. Don't scratch your head you will kill innocent microbes on your scalp, don't digest your food because innocent bacteria will die, etc. Lose your self righteousness and kill something knowingly just once. Kill that one chicken or cow to feed yourself or kill some plants to eat. Take responsibility for what you contribute to killing before you judge others. You cannot live without killing. You are a killer whether you like it or not.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki were the end results of a bloody war in which Japan killed, tortured, enslaved, and raped countless thousands of people, including innocent civilians. Japan made a cowardly attack at Pearl Harbor when the US Navy was unpreparred. The attack only succeeded because the US was trusting Japan who was deceitfully offering it's hand of friendship. At the time, Japan's ambassadors were conducting "good will" talks with the US. If the attack were made at any other time, Japan would have failed miserably.

History later proved that while Japan may be strong in cowardly surpise attacks by hitting it's enemies when they are not looking, they cannot endure a real fight in which they must face their enemy, much like today's cowardly terroists who tremble in the shadows like fearful jackals.

The honored and glorious mushroom clouds of Hiroshima and Nagasaki towered in rememberance for the countless thousands who were murdered, raped, tortured, enslaved as prostitutes, enslaved as laborers, and forced to endure unbelievable hardships, condtions and resulting disease and painful death by the Japanese military in China (remember Nanking), the Philippines, Burma, Indonesea, Guam, New Guinea, and many other Asia Pacific lands.

What goes around comes around.

The attack of the World Trade Center was another suprise and cowardly attack in the same tradition of the Japanese Empire. It targeted innocent people, not soldiers.

The USA was not in the midst of a war on 9/11. Innocent people were attacked and killed on our own soil - killed by terrorists who used our planes as bombs. It is a tragedy that deserves to be remembered and those who died deserve to be mourned. The events in Heroshima and Nagazaki are certainly remembered by many, but those events occured during a war.

As in 9/11 the United States was attacked first. The others were wars. No-one in America likes war. But sometimes it's thrust upon us. And when we retaliate, the aggressors start whimpering and just can't seem to understand why we're pissed off. Get over it or get out. America has it's faults as does any other country. The difference is this is still the greatest country on the face of this earth. Or all you idiots wouldn't want to come here.

Correct - I think it is because it is recent in terms of history.

Looking backwards gets easier with time. All forms of killing are wrong, and although it is definitely not an excuse for it, 9/11 did not happen at a time of recognised war and has another form of impact in the minds of people.

The only thing that we should be doing is finding ways to stop these things from happening again - anywhere in the world.

Thank you for reminding us.

It is not forgotten. It is still taught about in schools, and I am sure there are still tearful remembrances in Japan. But it was 60 or so years ago. Time heals all wounds... or at least quiets the tears into stricken silence...

To add to David S... a war that we were trying to stay out of...

I guess if the Japanese hadn't been sneaking in the back door and killing all the innocents at Pearl Harbor,"while their ambassador's were in Washington talking peace,by the way",all those people wouldn't have died. ya think? you do realize that every Aug 6th the empire of Japan comes to a halt to remember their dead, but on Dec 7th life goes on as before,"remember over 2000 people died during their cowardly attack'. go figure

The difference is that 9/11 happened on the Americans home turf. It becomes more real when it happens close to home.
