I always feel safe on the trains. I even doze and nap on the way to work. If I'm not dozing, I'm reading the paper. I try to keep an ear open for anything unusual. But most of the riders on the MTA are honest folks, just trying to get to work, school, whatever and are trying to live as safely as the rest of us.

Oh my gosh No way do i feel safe at all. most of my friends and family will say the same. But we ride the trains anyway because we have to go to work, school, etc. Its a shame that nothing really has been done to protect the riders of the mta since this day 5 yrs ago which is 9-11.
If there was an attack on the trains there would be devistation and disaster because we have nothing to protect ourselves.
I think the basic things everyone should have is a gas mask. it a shame to live this way but that is what it has come down to for me. Look at how the city shut down from the mta transit strike. Imagine if the trains were blown up or etc (God forbid plz). How can people say they feel safe? Wow!
i know some peeps could continue to say things are better than they were 5 yrs ago. They have their reason i'm sure. But i'm not 1 of them believe me.
I feel like more should be done to protect the people who ride the trains and buses.

its completely safe pretty much anywhere in manhattan and in most neigborhoods of the other boroughs. A woman alone may not want to ride after about midnight but probably the worst thing that will happen is harrassment from a homeless person. If you are nervous the conductor is usually on the middle car of the train (you'll see him/her's head out the window as the train pulls into the station). This is the safest car on the train as it is always attended by an MTA employee.

I can't say that I feel safe and secure because even if there was just a track fire, we would all be screwed.
I try to avoid thinking about it, because I have no other way to get to work.

Most native New Yorkers don't even think about that. We don't really worry about terrorists or anything. Most NYers are more concerned about bums or crack whores on the subway more than anything else.

Yes, I feel safe. I always have.
When and if my gut ever tells me that I am not, I listen to my intuition and do something about it.

No, the lady selling the tickets yelled at my dad because he took a fraction of a second too long to get his money out of his wallet.
