We are encouraged to be ever abounding for the Lord, we are shown in the scripture what to teach regarding Gods law and to have the Love of God in us. I think most christians go with Love and seek a patience and peace in there manner, we are encouraged in the bible to preach with zeal as well as Love.
Its the joy of the Lord that inspires christians to seek others and share the Love of God. It is a wondeful experience to share. People do want it this i know, gays and straight alike.

I don't have an answer, because I am completely annoyed with anyone trying to expound the joys of their faith to me. I'm sorry you feel bad. Try to talk to people about other things.

No matter what subject it is, there will always be criticism from people who only know their ideas on it, not the facts.
As being brought up as a roman catholic, i don't believe that the bible can be accurate anyway, it wasn't written at the same time(it was written years later) so along the way people would've added their own bits and pieces, like chinese whispers.
The main message from the bible, to love fellow man and do good by them, is the main point, i think if you follow it word by word though its a little daft.
Faith gives people hope, whether it be in god, or the universal life force or whatever you want to call it, it kind of takes you back to the warm secure feeling of when you were a child and had your parents standing there, knowing they would look after you and sort things out. There is nothing wrong with any faith, as long as it follows the main message of the bible, basically to get on with people, help them and be sensitive to them (not that its generally a good idea to let your guard down too much these days).
So if believing in the bible is your faith and makes you and your happy, then far be it for anyone to say anything. But remember, vice versa, for you also need to respect other people which also means their religion

I myself am not a Christian, actually I'm anything but a Christian, and the main reason I know of for others outside of the religion to give criticism is that so many people try and shove the religion down everybody elses throats. I have no problem with other people going about there own business and being a christian or Muslim or Jewish. Not only that but those people who preach about God and the likes also discourage people from liking the religion due to the fact they say Gays/Bis have sinned etc and other stuff like that.

As long as you're not preaching to people who aren't interested, or making a big deal out of being Christian you're less likely to be criticised for it.
Just ignore it if it continues, you believe in your faith and only your own opinions should matter about it.

A lot of the criticism form 'non-christians' as you put it is down to the treatment of a lot of sections of soceity by 'alleged' christians!

A number of christians who are very enthusiastic about their faith can have a tendency to preach a lot to other people often causing offence. While I understand that not all christians are like this, it can sometimes feel like they are.

I also can see why they come under criticism from people who maybe don't practice their faith in the same why. I would call myself a non-practising christian although I do have faith which i freely choose to keep private and I have been called non-christian.

I also understood the valuse of christianity to be along the lines of 'love one another' and 'do onto others as you would have done onto you' - when some 'extreme' christians stand out in protest against other sections of societies I wonder whether they are actually christian at all! This attitiude has brought the citicism - its not as simple as people just being anti-christian for no good reason.

I do understand that a lot of christians feel the need to spread the word of god but sometimes it can be a simple as choosing your audience carefully!!!

What is the actual question? Are you suggesting that you have difficulty tolerating all the non Christians in the world? Is your problem "the gays" you mention? Or is it just people who don't agree with you? Or the ones who get fed up of you preaching at them 24/7 and viewing them with disdain/ pity? Maybe people criticise because you insist you know that they want to hear about your beliefs and superstitions... I sure as hell don't. I'm sure it's very nice for you to have your religion and the sense of security, community etc. you get from it. I hope you're very happy together - just don't push it on me.

I would prefer you to be able to use better grammar and punctuation, but I doubt you will go forth from this place and endeavour to learn to do so. I believe that if you did, you would enrich your intellect and powers of communication, which would be beneficial to you. I do, however, accept that it is your choice. Please allow me the same freedom over my choice of spiritual belief.

I am a non-christian, and surely you should be strong willed enough not listen to the criticism?
I would never criticise anyone's religious beliefs or customs, and therefore I would not expect anyone to do it to me, but if some morons decide to, I know I am strong enough to respond in a respectful fashion.
If you are feeling any kind of "strain" in regards to criticism thay may be highlighting that your faith is not as strong as it should be.
If your faith was 100%, then you would not need to "cope with criticism" as you have the "Lord" on your side?

I am a non believer. I think religions are out of date and certainly out of touch with the real world. They are hypocritical and contrite.

However, these are my views. Many share them and many do not. I do not try to convince any one that my views are correct and like wise do not wish to be converted.

I do try to treat each persons own views with respect and accept each person as they are as a person not their religious beliefs or sexual orientation.

People either do or they don't want to be involved with religion. If they do, they seek out and contact you. If they are not interested, then nothing you say will change their minds.

Therefore just allow people to live there own lives how they want. Do not try to influence them, just be grateful majority of people are happy to live together in peace.

You listen!

I think that often Christians get wrapped up in having to bring so many people to Christ and "save" them. We don't save anyone "God" does.

Our job is to love people, respect people and encourage. By reacting to criticism with anything but love you are going against the very principals in which you believe.

Of course the Bible never said this would be easy.

Gays and straights alike? Well thank you, sir, kind christian, sir, better than us, sir. Don't you realise some people can accept other people just as they are and do good because it's what you do towards other creatures, (not just human), because that makes you happy and it makes them happy? Do you really need god or a book that various people over a couple of thousand years have added to, taken from, altered as fitted their requirements, to tell us that? I abound with Life and that's me, not god.

No not everyone wants to hear the word of God. While you may be well meaning, some have already decided what side they are on and no amount of coaxing or debating will move them from their stance.Sure you should try to bring people to Jesus so they can experience the good things you experience but the final decision lies within each person's heart. If you cannot sway them or move them to at least think about it, then Jesus said to wipe the dust from your feet as you leave the house (city).

You go and pray for them! This is always the best way to deal with the inevitable criticism that comes as a result of being a Christian. People will always attack that which they don't understand and maybe even fear. I comfort myself with the fact that Jesus was hated and criticized constantly and He was perfect. Why should I, with all my flaws, expect anything less?
