Golden Wonder were taken over earlier this year by Tayto, based in Northern Ireland. My local Somerfield sell multipacks of their crisps.
Walkers have all but muscled out every other crisp maker. They are owned by Pespico, who also own Pizza Hut, KFC and (of course) Pepsi. Internationally the crisps are known as Lays (if you've been abroad you will have noticed that the logo is similar to Walkers). How long before Walkers lose the name and go the way of Opal Fruits and Marathons? I think I should start a SOC (save our crisps) campaign!

They went bust last January (2006).
They had two factories, one at Corby and one at Scunthorpe.
They closed the Corby Plant, and sold Scunthorpe to the Irish company Tayto. (They had a third one a few years back but that was first to go!)
They made crisps for most of the supernmarkets, of which I always though the Co-op own brand were the best - yes better than Walkers!
They ended up selling off some of the product ranges to KPs but still make them under license.

I watched a documentary about 2 years ago about Golden Wonder's struggle to stay in business. I think they may well have gone bust, and I know that Walker's were their biggest rival at the time.

The Irish Tayto Group has aquired the Golden Wonder business.
They now own all brands, and have taken over all production areas.
