Your ecological footprint is your impact on the natural world, usually in a negative sense. So if you drove an SUV, littered all the time, and left your lights on, you would leave a bad ecological footprint. You basically want to leave as little of a footprint as possible.

try this quiz, http://www.myfootprint.org/, based on national consumption averages and is meant to give you an idea of your Ecological Footprint relative to other people in the country you live in. It is not highly detailed, but should give most people an idea of where they stand.

The result is in the number of planets required to support the human population all consuming the same as you (2.1 in my case)
