i am a non muslim. i am likely to convert into Islam soon.
For the last two years i have fasted during Ramadhan, however after a lot of reading on Islam, i am not sure as to whether my fast is valid one as a non muslim and two, because i dont say the prayer at the time the fast opens and closes.
any advice will be appreciated.

Well, it's up to God to accept. But you must enter Islam first for fasting to be obligatory on you. The fasts you did are for yourself meaning they weren't required of you. The prerequisite to fasting is to believe in La illaha illallah Muhammadur Rasoolullah (There is no god except Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah) and offer prayers five time a day on time. On the day of Judgment, God will ask you about your prayers before He asks about your fasting. Best wishes to you!

p.s. Islam does not consider people heathens! that is a non-muslim concept. we respect all human beings for who they are and whatever they worship. we never insult the religion or god of non-muslims

At the end of the day, it boils down to your intentions. Personally, i don't think anyone here can pass judgement on whether your fasting will be accepted or not, only Allah can decide that.

If you fasted to prepare your mind and body for the month of Ramadhan in order to sincerely serve Allah (even though you have not yet converted) then i suspect that there would be no real reason why it wouldn't be accepted.

Although your fasting times are different and you don't say the prayers for starting and ending them, if you believe you're doing it out of sincerity and submission to Him then I can't understand why it WOULDN'T be accepted.

I'll give you an example. My uncle married a Christian woman and she converted to Islam. While still newly-married, she was still learning about the religion. Her husband was responsible for slaughtering chickens and animals according to Muslim rites to make sure that the meat they ate was halaal. Anyway, one day they were expecting us for dinner and he hadn't gotten home yet to slaughter the chickens that she needed for the meal that night. So she took it upon herself to slaughter the chickens herself. Not knowing what specific prayer her husband used, she used the only words she knew (which, funnily enough, was the Muslim greeting - Assalaamu alaikum). She kept saying it over and over while slaughtering the chickens. She told us this story that same night during supper.

Now, she wasn't Muslim but she was sincere in her actions. I believe that the meat i ate last night was halaal even though the required prayer was not used.

Does this make sense?

well good for you, if you really are ready to accept ISLAM as your religion then yes you must be a muslim first then your fasting will be valid ,but then again only Allah knows if it's accepted before u convert to Islam, but considering your condition it's a good thing for you, if soon you become a muslim you won't have any difficulty performing the fasting and i give u an advice try asking to a teacher /ustadz/ulama that understand Islam more , may Allah give u His Blessing , Wassalam.

If you submit to the God to obtain Peace then you are already a muslim.

The fast pleases the God so much so that it is like iron being subjected to heat. The hotter the fire, makes the iron easier to shape.

I do not see why not. Fasting is prescribed to All of the Humans. There are times when you get ill that your fast. You get well.

All Faith based systems fast in one way or another, even the ones considered primitive or pagan by some.

All Religion is Islam in some form.

May peace be upon you!

I'm so glad that you made the right choice to revert back to Islam, may Allah really bless your soul.

Your fast, is all up to Allah for whether to accept or not, just leave to the Almighty as he's the most Gracious and Merciful. The thing is that you don't really know what to do at the particular time and God is the most Knowing and the oft-Forgiving.

Allah Bless ALL OF YOU!

let me tell u that Inshaallah (God Willing) ur fast will be accepted. fasting is just not like what people think. its not about starving from dawn to dusk. its something more. but u have to pray, may be u could start reading the Quran and get to know more and go to a local mosque and get to know what Islam is all about. then u can decide. but prayers are a must as it is the best time for seeking refuge and asking for forgiveness and mercy.

u have to prepare urself to persevere and to control ur entire system -- body, mind and soul. Ramadhan is not just about fasting, its time for us to learn to keep ourselves in control. it is a time where one can learn to deal with the evil things and intentions and looking forward to being a better human being. it is a time to learn to forgive and ask for forgiveness.

Ramadhan is the time for people to better themselves in virtues of endurance, patience and forgiveness. thats what its all about. it is the time to learn to give.

i am looking forward this Ramadhan to be a better me. so hope this Ramadhan will be a good one for u. and remember, ur prayers and good deeds will stand up with uon the Day of Judgement and answer on ur behalf against the bad deeds.

may the peace and blessings of Allah be with u and may He guide u in the right path.

Your good deeds depends on your intentions, however, fasting is not requested from non Muslims. If you fasted to please God I hope you will get the reward of that when you convert. God whose proper name is Allah is the most generous that when you convert to Islam will forgive all your old sins but will keep all your good deeds and multiply for you from his own blessings.

It is good for health,

"Ramadhan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur’an, as a guide to mankind, also clear (signs) for guidance and judgement (between right and wrong). So everyone of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spent it in fasting." Holy Qur’an 2:185

It is the responsibility of a Muslim to abstain from taking food and drink and also to abstain from sexual intercourse during day time for a period of one month. Ramadhan, the month in which the Qur’an was first revealed, is the stipulated month for fasting. The believer who observes fasting for a month is able to elevate his self above all temptations of a physical nature.

It is a humble invitation to a truth, which is revealed by God (Allah-almighty) to the total mankind, up on Prophet Muhammad (Peace be up on Him) as revealed before on Prophets Moses (Mosa), Jesus (Isa) and other Prophets (Peace be up on them all). But now only 100% purely existing religion in this world is Islam! And only purely 100% existing revelation is Holy Qur'an All other revelations are corrupted! The only true God Allah-almighty/our creator/the creator of universe says in Qur'an (V51: 56) that "And I (Allah) created not the Jinn and Mankind except that they should worship Me (Allah alone)". As well as in (Qur'an 3:64) Allah says that "O people of the Scripture! Come to a Word that is Just between us (Muslim) and you, that we worship none but Allah (Alone), and that we associate no partners with Him (Allah), and that none of us shall take others as Lords (Gods) besides Allah. Then, if they turn away, say: Bear witness that we are Muslims (truly submitted/obeying to only-God)".

Islam is a total submission and worship to only Allah-almighty/only-God/our-Creator, Creator of universe, Self-sufficient- Master, whom all creatures need, He begets not, nor was He Begotten, Most Gracious, Most Merciful, 100%-Perfect, Eternal and there is none Co-equal or comparable unto Him-(Allah).

A voluntary relationship/submission to our Creator/Sustainer Allah in His Oneness with obedience (of His commands-Qur'an and teaching of Prophet Muhammad PBUH), and denouncing polytheism and its adherents to gain a peaceful/successful life in this world and Hereafter gain Paradise as well as protection from Hell-fire.

The basic essence of every religion is Love
The rituals associated with all the religions are means to achieve this state of awareness.
All the fasting and rituals are not for god/Allah, its for humans, so that they can purify themselves.
