The Sepulveda's were part of the Spanish Land Grant families in California...but it was said that Sephardic Jews changed their name to the name of the town Sepulveda (north of Spain) to escape the Inquisition...you could be burned at the stake just for being Jewish...so they changed their names, pretended to be Christian, while observing their Jewish beliefs and traditions in secret.

Ironically, the Sepulveda's in California ended up being Catholic for real

Hey sportin_jenny,

Interesting question, I could not find proof. But it makes sense, that if the Sepulveda's do not decend from somewhere else, then they must therefore be part of the North of Spain family.
