I think it should yes. Our language is rich with adjectives that have subtle differences which allow us to describe things in more detail and more clearly. Gay is a word for a kind of excited joy and people shy away from using it now.

Well in England at least gay has again started to be used as a term of abuse that is supposed to be "ironic" but used by people who should know better.
For example I heard a phd philosopher exclaim
"i don't like rawls he's gay" meaning not good/ don't agree with him not homosexual.
I guess there is a need to clamp down on this kind of usage. We wouldn't tolorate someone saying I don't like Rawls he's negroid.
It is used as a pejorative by a lot of young people these days unfortunately.
I guess people need to decide whether the word "gay" has been tarnished like the word spastic (the spastic society decided to change its name when spastic became a popular derogatory insult) and is no longer a positive word for gay people. Its sad when this happens to words.

Yes. I think it should. Why use the word in that way? It has come to mean a homosexual and now has no other meaning. I think we should use the word homosexual and not any euphemisms such as gay.

I think it is too late, because everyone identifies a homosexual as a gay person. I think it sounds like they are happy and gay people or something...

I don't see why it should be, who doesn't relish the experience of being told "x is gay" and then having to figure out from the context whether x is
a) homosexual
b) stupid
c) happy

yes.
they've hijacked a beautiful word from the english language that originally had a completely different meaning, thus reducing our ability to express ourselves.
why can't they be queer or bent and still be proud.
I personally have no other fight with bum-bandits, they can do as they please, just stop frackin' with my native language.

But what if they want to say they are happy and carefree, why deny them the English language? And how would you remove it from them, anyway?
Hmmmmm......
