I am recently engaged to a woman from the other side of the world. Our families have never met and we don't know where to get married. Both families have strong links to their home countries and therefore strong views on how things should run. I feel like taking off and just doing it without our families to save all the hassle. What should we do?

Elope (maybe take direct family), but before hand tell everyone, and have a 'wedding party' in both countries, therefore there are no favourites and its cheaper than having 2 weddings!

Talk to your fiance. Most grooms want to take off and just do it and save all the hassle. You need to see what she wants. Also if her parents are paying for everything, then you really need to take that into consideration.

Consider a video wedding. You could set it up so that everything could party in the place that they are in, and could view the wedding by video conference. Weird, but would be a great way of compromising.

Take off, do it your way with your bride to be, if she agrees. It is both of your lives to live. Just make sure it is legal right? Just be sure you both are Made for Each other :) and not rushing into marriage out of rebellion. and Just make sure it is out of love for one another.. Otherwise, it could cause for misery.. It is a big step!
take care

Go with your gut instinct. I feel Society puts to much emphasis on things like that. If I were your family member I would like to encourage you to put your money into the future like a deposit on a house. I would hope that they would be totally supportive.

Families!!
Thank gosh we can choose our friends.
