i had this discussion with a colleague of mine last week, she said that her friend, whose daughter has autism, has a toilet party every time she goes. She gets a special treat to eat and they play her favourite song and she gets to chose a game to play. Obviously there is time constraints, but maybe start out this way in the beginning and wean it down a bit as he becomes more regular. good luck!

you say he is autisitc. Is there any chance something may have changed recently about your facilities? Even a change in the bathroom rug may have set him off to not want to go in there. You should know how important routine is for autistic children. Investigate the area, make sure nothing has changed.
If you are absolutely certain nothing has changed. What the heck, try adding a change. try adding the floaties to the bowl for him when its time to go. Or try offering M&M's or something for each time he goes. Have the M&M jar in the 'loo'. Maybe a fun new routine will interest him again.

I have a daughter, but when I was trying to get her to sit on the toilet, I started using a dolly, and what I done was fill her up with water, and then my daughter watched as I held her on the toilet and the water started to come out. (I think you know where I mean). I know you have a son, but try a male doll and when he's weeing, start clapping a getting excited by praising the doll. Gosh it all sounds a bit daft when you see what you have done in black and white. Anyway, my daughter thought it was really funny, and couldn't wait to sit on the toilet, after a few occasions watching the doll.
I am serious, and I hope it helps.

when my children were at a young age. In order to get them to use the toilet i used to show them piccies and explain to them, but it may be a little difficult because ure child has autism, but i would give him lots of praise every time you get him to the bathroom because he may be scared off falling into the toilet so you may need to get a seat which you can place inside the seat for him to sit on
this may be all he needs to encourage him to use the toilet good luck

he is probably scare he might cave in but he can be reassured if he sees one of his parent using the loo while he watches, i dont mean that you should expose your nakedness, but you must do it in a way that will re assure him that, every body uses it and they have never caved in, not once. always assure him of his safety any time he needs to use the loo, i hope and pray that this will help him a lot.

Do you know why he has changed ?
Try and make it an enjoyable time for him, let him take a favourite toy or book, (sounds weird) but let him watch you go to the toilet that way he realises that its normal.
Does he go on a potty? If so call the toilet a bigger potty for a bigger botty (it worked with my nephew who has aspergers)
Have a word with the teachers and support staff at school, does he go to the toilet there? maybe they can encourage him to go when his class mates go too

My sister used a ping pong ball for her boys - she made it a game for them where they had to try to aim for it - don't know if it will work for your little boy but its worth a shot (literally)
Good Luck
