if he is serious about the blue then use a vegetable based colourant or food colour because then it won't be permanent. most schools would have something to say about blue hair though so don't give them amunition to reprimand your child.

I used to frequently dye my hair when I was in primary school, but only ever with temporary colours, usually the mousse type that wash put in a couple of washes. From what i remember I was doing it when I was about your son's age.
I definitely would NOT recommend letting him dye it blond, as that would require using bleach, and that's not really a good idea.
If he wants to dye it blue, I think the best thing to do would be to get a temporary colour, like a gel or mousse or even spray, becuse then if he decides he doesn't like it, it will wash out quickly, and then there's less risk of his school kicking up a fuss about his hair.
Hope that helps.

NO WAY a childs skin is so much more sensitive than an adults and any dye could trigger a reaction or even burn the scalp, i do know what its like for you tho my son always asks me to put blonde highlights in his and i refuse, i explain every time why i say no and he doesnt ask then for ages but i really would not recomend it, unless you want to be in casualty explaining to the nurses he's there because you let him have his hair dyed and its gone wrong!

I'd say try the blond, with a semi-permenant first because hes young so his hair needs to develop still. I wouldn't let him have the blue as I think thats a bit too drastic, and I doubt the school will be happy.
As for the person who said that parents need to teach their children about having a good name in the community, obtaining a good education and pursuing a lasting career, a HAIR COLOUR will NOT make a difference to someones education! How can having a different hair colour effect your learning? Makes no sense at all.

I am and have been a stylist for the past 9 yrs. I have a husband and three sons who have all had their hair either colored or highlighted at least once. I see nothing wrong w/ it.
I just recently highlighted my 4 yr. old sons hair a few weeks back. I did use caution not to get any bleach in him eyes. YOU MUST BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!!
I have seen many small kids get color and highlights during my 9 yr. career as a stylist and have not yet heard or seen any bad outcomes from it.
I do recommend that you have a professional do the bleaching for you, bleach can be extremely dangerous if it gets in the eyes. Maybe even consider a beauty school, they have trained instructors at all times.
I think little ones look really cute w/ the funky colors. Good luck!!!

No, children need guidance from their parents, and dying your hair blue is not something a child or anyone else should do! You should ask your child why they want to dye their hair, and I;ll bet it is because someone they know did it. Children should be taught the importance of having a good name in the community, obtaining a good education, and pursuing a lasting career. They should be taught that doing things such as dying their hair blue is not acceptable to you as their parents.

Don't think so. Any hair dye is more or less bad for your hair, even if you are an adult. If it damages _your_ hair , think what it'll do to his. I don't think he'll like to have bad hair at 10 ( but at least he's a boy not girl, so maybe he won't care)
P.S. I mean permanent dyes. If it's not permanent, I suppose it's OK

health wise it's not really ok. there's studies out now saying that hair dye penetrates the scalp skin, and the chemicals contained pass on to the blood stream.. plus eventually you damage the hair.. but hey, if he insists??
