Buddhists believe in the "impermanent self", so only a portion of any person can be reborn (there's some debate over what portion). Each life is a link in a sort of eternal chain.
A slightly more scientific look at the argument for it is that energy cannot be destroyed. So, the little bits of electrical energy that make up a person have to go somewhere when that person no longer has a source of power, so to speak.

Actually Buddhists speak of rebirth. We re-enter this realm because of the wheel of Karma (this is called samsara...if we become enlightened we can move to a higher level so to say) . When we die we leave this realm and go into a limbo type of realm whereby we chose to re-enter the living realm until we can break out of the cycle of Karma and move on to a higher plane. Thats the best way for me to explain it without getting into a deep discussion of things..

Reincarnation is a step towards Moksha (liberation from cycle of birth and death and unification with supreme reality Brahman). With every incarnation as per Law of Karma soul's ultimate aim is to achieve Moksha but Moksha itself depends on Karmas.

We reincarnate because we have attachments with this world when we die. We have to giveup all the attachments and desires step by step to prevent reincarnation. Then we can understand ultimate truth. When we prevent reincarnation we will attain NIRVANA according to THERAVADA BUDDHISM.
To learn more about Buddhism go to Sri Lankan Buddhist web sites.

You don't. Reincarnation is what Satan does to confuse our minds. He likes to play with the truth, by mixing it with false doctrines and theories.
