It usually lasts 21 to 28 days and they usually breed between the 10th and 14th day, so if you don't want her to breed keep her shut up the entire second week of her heet. Good luck; hope this helped.

In my experience the entire process is a 3-6 week process. There is a before time, the actual bleeding stage, and some after time. If she is bleeding give her a good 21/2 - 3 weeks; although usually the beginning and end of that 21/2 - 3 week cycle mine isn't bleeding much. It can be messy, especially with bigger dogs. Good luck.

You should consider your pet to be "in season" for 21 days: 7 days coming into heat, 7 days in heat, 7 days going out. Though conception is most likely during the middle 7 days, Mother Nature doesn't always follow the rules. Confine your pet for the entire 3 weeks if it's her first heat, I would wait until her next heat and then get her breed.

Count 23 days from the onset, that is start of bleeding. They will start to cycle just before this and will continue to cycle a few days after the 23rd day.

Mating can occur anywhere from the 8th to 18th day. Some will even mate up to the 20th day but puppies may not be viable after the 18th day.

In most cases, but not, all cyling starts with a slight mucky discharge, to full bloody discharge, then no discharge.

It usually lasts 2 to 3 weeks can be very messy, if you have a large dog it may get over the side of your cupboards etc so make sure you clean these as well as the floor.
