My female shepherd gets even more hyper and needy than usual. If it's just a few days before she has very loose stools, right up to the bleeding stage. I also have a male german shepherd, so even before she shows any physical signs he is showing more interest in her than he normally does. She also seems to not listen as well. Normally I can control her by voice, but if she's coming into season she will not come when told, and I have to make sure and leash her after that until the heat cycle is over or almost over.
Her first heat cycle was right at 6 months and it's been consistant since, every 6 months. I see blood before the vagina swelling stage. Once you've been through a few you'll know the signs before it happens though.

depending on the breed they will ahve a reddish discharge- but not all bitches do- if they're a small breed you don\t get any droplets of blood.
Also, the vagina swells and becomes very large- this can look alarming- but is the first sign they about to come into season. They won't come into season until they're about a year old- and it's normally every six months.

A discharge like a females period but b4 that happens there tousles will become bigger (I'm trying to be polite here, their female genitals) they may become randy as well, then you get the discharge, I'd recommend you get old sheets and cover things as it can be quite messy and very foul smelling.

Drops of blood around the house, acting a little under the weather, male dogs sniffing around her on walkies...a little early yet though, she's still only a baby :)

My dog started backing up to people and sitting on their feet or lap with her front legs still straight and extended. And she got super clingy, following me ALL the time, and whining. Licking themselves excessivily, too.
