He loves to pee on the doormat, in the laundry basket and on any clothes left on the floor. We washed the mat and sprayed 'Cat-a-Pult' on it, but it didn't work, this is the real problem as obviously we can put the other stuff out of reach for him! He does also use his litter tray, which we do change regularly and remove any excess mess as it happens virtually, he just seems to enjoy peeing on fabric!

Well, I once had a cat that loved man-made materials and leather. It was almost a fetish for her. She ate shoes, briefcases, straws, sandles, purses and cords. Nothing plastic, fake leather or leather was safe.

Sooo, it sounds like you are doing all the right things to train your kitten and if the behavior doesn't stop , it could be one of those crazy little lil cats.... (like i had). Sometimes if a kitten is taken away form the mother too soon they get a bit dysfunctional and some behaviors cannot be corrected. Also talk to your Vet and don't give up yet. I hope it works out for you.

has he been neutered? I have two male kittens both rescued from the streets, the first thing I was worried about was that they would cost me my carpet, but male kittens can be neutered as early as, maybe 8 weeks? sorry I can't remember the age, but for males it is far earlier then females. This removal of that particular male hormone source, at least for my boys, has made them pee free for over a year. Neither kitten has ever chosen to urinate inside, although I choose to keep my kitties indoor at all times as well.

A neutered boy is the best way to reduce that male territorial instinct to mark territory. IF your kitten is older then 6 months he is definitely ready to be neutered, he may have some habit behavior, but with the absence of the hormones and some extra attention you should be able to have a pee free indoor kitty.

I would suggest getting the kitten fixed if he is 6 months old or older,also I would check into the Urinairy Tract infection that alot of male cats tend to get,and that is one of the signs.If this goes untreated the cat may die (I had 2 die from it).If it is still quite young,it may just need to be shown the litter box every time it goes elsewhere or when you think the kitty is going to pee.Have patience and eventually he will start using the box!! Many cats that do this (pee on things), are most inclined to pee on soft things left on the floor--clothing, towels, gym bags--so first, pick those things up off the floor.

They also often pick on new things on the floor, especially ones that may have some kind of anxiety-association, like a suitcase near the front door, or something smelling of a person they have issues with. Again--off the floor.

If a cat pees on your bed, or on something on your bed, in my experience, that's a direct message that they are mad at you about something.

I am not sure (as my kitty never had such a problem - he came to my flat fully trained, so much so that he wouldn't take any food, nor roam freely in the house for the first three days - but he would use the litter only for relieving himself).

P.S. And I would join in the "have him fixed" advice. If you haven't already (doesn't sound like spraying to me, but neutering is just a good thing, unless he is pedigree tom you want to use for breeding...)
