"Point of Sale" refers to the location where a sale transaction occurs. Usually that means at a cash register in a retail store where the goods and money are being exchanged.

You probably heard of Point of Sale devices or software systems. These are referring to bar code scanners, computer devices and software that are used at cash registers to facilitate the transaction. Examples are: software that stores bar codes and prices, software to automatically deduct inventory as products being sold, signature pad for credit card purchases etc.

POS : Point of sale actually signifies retail outlets / stores where a product is been placed for sale.

Alternatively this word (POP/POS) also used as synonym of merchandise material used for promoting a product like:

leaflets, danglers, bunting, posters, standees etc..

Hope this clarify ur query.
