vicky, try using a wet vacuum cleaner if you have one, that will be the best bet, especially if it has been there for some time.
If you dont have one, use a piece of super absorbent cloth (the kind used for auto wash, pets drying) to soak up the urine. Then repeatly wet the spot and use the super absorbent cloth to soak up the water until the area is clean. That should clean it up pretty good though not as well as the water vacuum. Put some powder over the area to mask any smell that is left.
In the future, try to keep a piece of super absorbent cloth nearby. Better still train your dog to urine at the right place!

Elbow grease darling. But if you want to stop your dog urinating there again you can spray pet repellant. In South Africa it is about R35(about US$4) a bottle available from any petshop.
If its a puppy put newspapers and only remove the top one every two hours moving the papers towards the door daily. The puppy will learn to follow gradually.

Since you said "you", I would say there is no way I'm going to try and get dog urine out of your carpet. I would say, use Shout.

Shampoo it first, then you can try "Nature's Miracle", but there is a better product you can use, it's called "X-O" and you can either get it at you vet's office, or go to "QVC.com" and order it. I've used Nature's Miracle and STILL smelled the urine, but wwith X-O, I've NEVER smelled it again, and neither do other dogs--if another dog smells a dogs urine, it will try to "Mark" it's territory, this never happened when I used X-O. It's a great product!!

White vinegar eliminates the odour, other than that, you can use washing liquid & hot water. In the U.K there is a product called "Odourfree" made by Alstoe animal health. It eliminates odours & stains & can be used on all animal accidents. It is quite pricey at £9.75, I got one from a vet practise, but it's well worth it!

Pour salt on it while it's still wet. It will absorb the moisture and the smell. Let it set awhile and then vaccuum it up. Honest! It really works! The sooner you treat it the better.
