Why is it people give a bad rating to an answer that is based completely on fact, just because they don't like what the facts say? If someone asks a question, I answer it as best as I can using the facts. With the questions I answer, that usually has to do with legal precedent, court decisions, or what a specific law says.

I see the question, present what the law says, what the courts have said, and what all that means in relation to the question. My answers do not often include my own opinion. In those cases, I can understand someone who doesn't agree giving me a bad rating. That's their right.

But when I explain what the law says, how does that qualify as a "bad" answer, just because they don't agree with the law? If you don't agree with the law, use the system to change it. If you think I'm wrong, bring out facts that show I'm wrong.

Just because you don't like what the law says, doesn't mean that it's not true. So why do some people give bad ratings to the truth?

It seems that the majority of people who ask and answer questions in the "law enforcement & police" section of Yahoo Answers are there because they are either in trouble or hate the Police. Ironic, isn't it. They don't want to hear the truth from you and anyone else with real knowledge or experience here, just like they don't want to hear it in person while they are getting into trouble. I think they come here and ask a question to find a way out of the problems they caused, and God forbid, they take responsibility for their own actions. You just remind them that they are wrong. Also, people who automatically hate Police will probably give you a thumbs down no matter what you say, if you put "Police Officer" in the source of knowledge box below the answer box. These are usually the people who say creative things like "My taxes pay your salary" or "You can't do that, I know the law" or "By law, you have to let me call my lawyer before you handcuff me" Just remember the level of intelligence you are dealing with on some of these questions.

Don't let the thumbs down people keep you from answering those questions. You have first-hand knowledge of law, law enforcement, and legal procedure. There are people who appreciate your expertise and are glad you are sharing it here!

Dude, people dont like the truth alot of the time. I feel your pain. I answer alot of the questiions about psychological things. I get bad ratings, because people dont like being told that they are wrong, even when they are. They dont like the facts, even though it's the the truth. I cant understand the bad ratings, but people need to hear it. Stick up for the truth. Dont worry about the ratings. Tell them what they NEED to hear, not WANT to hear. Thanks for the hinesty. It's about time someone said this!

Maybe sometimes the rating is given because the answerer thought the truth was something else? Sometimes we can be subjective about what we believe is the truth.

People only want to hear what supports their needs and lifestyles. If it goes against what they believe, then it's a bad answer.

It's not the fact that I own a gas-guzzling vehicle, it's the oil companies that are ripping people off, to give you an example.

Because they don't like what the law says, or they don't like how you phrased it. Anyway, they're stupid, forget them. You know the truth. I know the truth.
