I think the 17 month should go to bed at 7pm and the 3 year old at 7.30pm so you have half an hour on your own with the older child. also putting them to bed at this time, gives you time. and also its getting them into a good routine.

I've got a boy of 3.5 years and a girl of 22 months. They go upstairs at about 6 o'clock (give or take 15 minutes). This gives me ample time to get them in the bath, ready for bed, milk and a story, without them being too tired. The little one has a story in her big brother's bed, then goes to her own bed to sleep. They are usually asleep between 7 and 7.30. Phew!

I have 3 boys and their bedtime routine is
Dinner at 6
Bath at 6:30
At 7 they watch 30 minutes of Nick Jr on foxtel
then baby ( 14 months) goes into his cot at 7:15, my 4 year old is ready at 7:30 and our 2.5 year old goes at 7:40 and all are asleep by 8 at the latest...this works for our family and the routine is the most important and they get up in the mornings between 7 and 7:30 which is great for our family.
Hope this helps

okay i have a 4 year old, 3 year old, 18 month old,
The baby goes to bed at 6.30 as he only has 1 nap for 1 hour. Then the other two got to bed at 7.30/8pm so i can get some selfish time to myself. And it works. The baby does get up at 6.00/6.30 in the morning but this is fine.

I usually put my son to bed around 9 p.m he's almost 3 but I personally think the earliest you should put them to bed is 8:00-8:30. That way they will probably get up around that time in the morning.

My 2 had a strict bedtime of 6.30 - 7pm up until 3 years old then 7pm until 7 years old.
It is now 7.30pm on school nights, with 30 mins to read. Light off at 8pm.
Weekends are different and depends on how tired we all are!

it depends on when you want them to wake up. mine are not so young now, but i would say 7:30ish sounds good.get them into a good rountine ,so that they know what is coming. i used to spend at least an hour before the expected lights out time, getting mine ready , by having the teeth brushing drill, saying goodnight to dad,and lying in bed ,while i read, chatted and sometimes sang rhymes. this has helped ,as they get older we have had discussions about their days. my daughter in particular, enjkoys offloading in this way. then with a clear mind, because mom can fix anythng, she goes to sleep. don't do it every night now.-she is nearly 12, but she does request it from time to time. admittably not everyone has the time to do so,but any routine event will do,that do not get them all psyched up for their second wind.

my daughter has 2 boys about the same age as yours & they are in bed about 7.30 ; 8 at the latest. young children need a good 10 hours sleep at night to help to keep them healthy.
my kids at those ages were always in bed by about 8
if the children are let stay up too late on a regular basis then they tend to be tired & cranky in the mornings

well depend on your schedule. I have a 3 and 22mos old and as of now I don't work so we are a little flexible. I base bedtimes on their schedule and length of naps. Typically they get up around 9A nap around 1 or 2. If my son takes a nap then bedtime is around 915-930 but no nap I usually do 830P. If I worked probably do about 8P. I stay up and clean and get my alone time once they are off to bed. We use to do seperate bed times but since as of now they share a room my 22mos old would scream because she knew he was up and she was not.
