If you're staying in the cities, the banks in all 3 countries have ATMs. Open an account with Nationwide and use their Visa debit card and you'll get a commercial exchange rate with no commission or other charges.

If you're staying up country, you can still use the ATM at the airport.

No only travellers checks until you get there as its safer and more reliable as long as you write down the serial number code for each travellers check and keep them safe, that way if you lost the cash or it got stolen, the bank can have them replaced in no time...
I always when abroad carry cards and travellers checks and very little cash as I was mugged twice in Thailand and once in Australia...
Remember there are assholes in every country so just be careful. Also do not put anything of expense in your suitcase, as they can tend to disappear for several hrs once you get into Thailand...
Sorry I don't mean to put a downer on it, but you should be cautious, but otherwise I had a great time and loved it to bits!

If you have lots of cash you will spend most of yourtime worrying about it, and hiding it in your room/bag etc
To me a money belt says to a thief "look here I am full of valuable and am your"
With travellers cheques they rip you off with the rate and can charge you to chane them
With atms the same applies
Your choice, but I would ensure I had a few £50 or $100 notes hidden under the insole of a shoe, in a sock, in the lining of a coat....... just in case. When I was in Thailand, my bank (Barclays) deceided to upgrade my account and sent a new card home and cancelled the one I had with me. It took 2 months to sort it out, so ensure you have another card or two as backup
