i use a pentium 4 1.8ghz with 512mb ram, hard disc size of about 80gig. Whenever my system comes on and i run a programme or do sumthin as little as copy a file, my CPU usage goes up to a 100%, imagine that, when all i'm doing is copying a file.....after about 10seconds, it'll freeze and i'ld have to restart. But if i leave the system on without doing nothin, it'll stay on forever. I thot maybe my CPU fan wasnt workin well so i changed it, but the problem still persists. Any Help?????

have you tried system restore? go to start, go to all programs, go to accessories, go to system tools and there you will find system restore and the rest is self explanatory. Hope this will solve your problem

I think your Ram is ok but you got either a Harddrive problem "check disc" or an overheating problem either your Fan is not cooling enough or your your cpu is overclocked or all of the above. At start up check all Fan's again leave the computer open.
Also check your Video adaptor(graphic's card) is the Card gotten very hot?does it have a Fan?.Try to take down your Hardware acceleration a littel does it help?Check uot how much physical Memory you have, reduce the amount of other memory seting's if possible or get some help at the Microsoft site.
Take care!

There are a few things that you should check out. First thing to do is if you are loaded with a lot of garbage on your computer, in which case you should remove it.
The next thing to do is to see if you have any virus in which case you should remove it right away. Likely the computer is loaded with adware or spyware, which is causing this problem. If all else fails then try and to reset your computer to the point before this problem occured.

its not a problem of tempreture or fans, cause if you can leave your computer working forever(as u mentioned) , then it doesn't over heat. your problem is one of the following:
1. Virus:
you must install the lateset antivurs program and run a scan, or you can write on google ("free online virus Scan"), then you can scan your PC, if you was unable to do so, then take your harddisk out, install it on antoher system and scan it from thier.
2. Spyware:
download SPYBOT from www.spybot.info, run a scan.
3. Windows problem:
a. System Restore.
b. Windows Repair.
c. Reinstall it.

I don't have a really good solution for you except I would check for viruses and spyware like some of the others have suggested. Is this a fairly new machine? What kind of warranty are you under? It sounds like it is a definite hardware problem and would probably be covered under your warranty. If this is the case, I would call the manufacturer and explain the problem to them.

im not sure whats up but i would think its some type of Virus or bad spyware.
Do a complete scan of your computer to see if theres any Viruses or spyware on your computer
I'm not sure what software to use to scan or what to do because my younger bros the main computer guy around this house. He set up all the desktops in this house and has everything secured as well as encrypted.
a simple search at a computer board should help you there.

check the following things first.
1) check if ur processor and power supply fans runs properly and check if ur ram and processor isnt getting too hot?
2) run ur computer in safe mode and then check if the problem persists or not.
3) then run any good anti virus(with update version) in safe mood.
what i think either ur processor is getting too hot due to any reason or u have virus in it which consume all the resources from it
u can ask me directly from if u want.
