Ever watch the cop movies where one guy goes in and pretends to be the perp's buddy, then leaves and his partner comes in and threatens to beat the snot out of the guy?
That's called "Good cop, bad cop" but religion uses it too.
Christianity, like all religions, is a device to control people and make them hand over their goods - usually money. In that sense, it is the biggest con of all time.

In one sense it's fear in the sense of reverence. We revere God. But in another sense it is fear. If I, as a christian, think " well I'm a christian and God has given me eternal life so since I already have eternal life I can go out and live like hell", I had better think again. A good father will let his little kids cry on his shoulder when they are down and will comfort them. But when they are behaving badly, he gives them another kind of comfort....southern comfort.....in other words, he comforts their rear end. It's for their own good. Most kids who have been raised right will fear their father in that sense. Christians don't experience Gods wrath but sometimes they experience Gods discipline for their own good. Psalms 23:4 says "Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me". The Lord sometimes uses his rod to whack us when we are not doing what we should be doing. It's just a loving Father trying to get his kids to straighten up and fly right.

Biblical fear is different from our everyday fear. It means holding the Lord in reverence and avoiding any pollutions that will cause Him displeasure. This is why John says in John 5 from verse 13 " this is the assurance that we have in Him......

This fear is like people today they say cool, it could mean hot.
It means respect and obey. Fear as afraid would mean no faith or trust. Rev.21:8;
Matt.22:37-40 is what Jesus said to do Rom.13:8,9; Love is encouraged. 1Cor,2:9;
Gal.5:22,23; Fruits of the spirit. A mature person.

Like a good father (here on Earth...) his children, fear him because he is the one that usually distributes discipline whenever it is necessary, which causes you to "fear" Dad whenever you have done something that you KNOW will require his disciplinary actions! But you also know that this same Dad, is also loving, & that fierceness is also going to protect you, & keep you safe. It is way comforting to know that such an awesome God (Abba Father) is watching over me, but I keep a heathly fear (respect) for Him, knowing that he sees all things..& knows what is in my heart at all times, therefore causing me to want to be obediant as His love is the greatest thing you will ever know!

I think it is because we get our confort by faering God, fear does not mean we are afraid to face God or something like that, I think fear is like we with pur parrents, because we love them we're affraid if we diobey them. So fearing God is the effort to do the best in God's eye by doing His words, the bible says that Gods world will set you free and I think by doing God's word we will be set free and have confort by His presents, plus we get further from sin. Ism"t that a comfort because sins always come to problem.

Religion depends on instilling fear into people so that they then become believers, and part with their money. There's always a bottom line in everything.

Because it's an attempt by cynical religious leaders to coerce the general population into following their religion and thus maintain their wealth, power and prestige.
