hello to all! ´My right arm aches but aches more at night when I´m in bed. Pain involves the whole right arm, pains when i touch cold water, can´t reach brasseure strap so that my left arm has to do the job of closing both straps at the back. I feel heaviness, its not swollen can still work with it except usual strength isn´t the same. Upper muscle of the arm pains. Ate prawns the other night pain woke me up at 3am. Would this be arthritis or tendonitis? Saw my doctor didn´t care much about it just said "could be" tendonitis. I use right hand for work as a cook. Had this discomfort for a long time but worsened when I mashed potatoes for 20 people. Warming arm feels good but water from the faucet makes it painful. Thanks for your opinion.

Get yourself to an orthopedist, not your family doctor. I just had shoulder surgery (and I'm a doc myself- I should know better) I kept thinking- "oh, it's just some bursitis or tendonitis, I just overused it today" denial is a wonderful thing, LOL-- turned out I tore cartilage in my shoulder & had to have a pin put in it :-( similar symptoms as you- achey, pain into the bicep, couldn't sleep on that side at night...

You may have tendonitis, arthritis, bursitis, a rotator cuff tear, or something else like what I had... (tendonitis is inflammation of a tendon, arthritis is degneration & inflammation of a joint, bursitis is inflammation of the bursa/sac around the joint) but nobody can tell you until they do the proper tests, Xrays, MRI, etc.

go to someone who really gets it & will investigate it & do the right tests & get you feeling better.

For now, put ICE on your shoulder, not heat!!!
and rest it as much as possible when you are not working.
Good luck

Tendonitis is swelling or inflamation of the tendons, which attach muscles to bones. Arthritis is an autoimmune response in which your body attacks your joints cartilage, causing pain and swelling.
I think you have something similar to what I had once, though not in exactly the same spot. I had tendonitis in my elbow ('tennis elbow', but it was from roofing). The swelling of the tendon pressed on a nerve and caused weakness in that hand's grip, and a tingling sensation in the fingers. I was really worried that I had somekind of serious disease until the doctor explained it to me. My guess would be that you have tendonitis in your shoulder and it may be pinching a nerve there. Nerves are strange things and could well be causing the array of pains you are eexperiencing. Try some anti-inflamatories like Aleve, but my doctor said the only real thing that works is rest and time.

Imagine for a moment your arthritis completely vanishing right now.

If, in a moment, your pain and stiffness melted away. And your joints all of a sudden functioned like a well-oiled machine.

Like a magic wand was waived, you'd be able to jump up from your chair and run around the room like a kid.

And imagine that you'd never have to suffer as much as a pinch of arthritis stiffness or pain ever again.

I know this sounds impossible right now, but bear with me, because sometimes miracles happen.

It was a gift from a woman on the other side of the world. From the kindness of her heart, she took pity on my suffering and taught me how to completely reverse my arthritis.

Today, I want to do the same for you!

i cant tel u exactly what it is, u better consult a pain specialist, get an MRI or something of sort. for ur info, tendonitis is inflammation of tendons whereas arthritis wil be inflamatin of joints. i sugges you seek medical attention and if ur doctor doesnt seem to get it, seek help somethwere else. i work in medical transcription field, so i will tel u this, dont take it lightly. get it treated and if possible take a few days off, dont do heavy lifting or anythign exertional with that arm. check out with an orthopedist.

Tendonitis relates to the tendons whereas arthritis involves the joints. It sounds more like tendonitis to me, which is a repetitive motion strain.

This is interesting, I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and many of the symptoms sound like what I have.

Get a better Doctor for one thing.
I still use my family practitioner and he has been quite helpful in pain relief. He has referred me to a Rheumatologist, but they will put me on lots of "new " drugs and RA is NOT curable YET.
So I rely on Ibuprofen, edcedrin (I use store brands) and prescription Vicodin as needed.
I stay on the otc pills every 4 hours to keep the pain down.

My knees are totally good now thanks to the ibuprofen. But my wrists and arms below the elbow are horrible. I had to get front hook bras and double dose on pain meds to go to bed. AM is the very worst after being in fixed position my wrists to shoulders are in severe pain, the blood feels carbonated. It is truly strange.

But interestingly enough RA has flares , bad, good, better and then worse. Last year April to DEC. I was BAD then Jan to June this year good now I am BAD again.

Your Dr. can run blood tests to check for the RA factor. So you can learn which you have.

Tendonitis is usually caused damaging the tendon by a specific action.
Mine came from twisting my elbo several thousand times doing store resets for Kodak. It took a wrap on it constantly and tightly on the muscle just below the elbow for 6 months to make it better. Plus pain meds. It took my Hubby 2 + years to heal his wrist when he cracked the tendon on a door knob when walking by.

Get tested with a more thorough Doctor to determine what you should be doing.

Sure sounds like tendonitis to me( I've got it , too )

You should make an appt with an orthopedic doctor, and he can give you a cortisone shot with added lidocaine...it smarts for a minute or two; but it's worth a MILLION !

Caused by repetition....

I have calcific tendonitis of the rotator cuff. What you are describing sounds similar. I had to have an x-ray to know for sure. Then you will probably be sent to a PT to work and strengthen your arm. I was also prescribed some anti-inflammatory meds which really didn't help much. Good luck.

I HAD tendonitis (tennis elbow).
I had to get steroid shots right in the elbow, where it hurt.
It's from repetition, in your arm, or over extending your elbow, like in tennis.
Did you haul off and pop somebody? (JUST kidding!!)

It took about three good years, before I didn't have it , anymore.

Once in a while, my right pinky and ring finger kind of 'tingle' and underneath my arm, but I just rub it, and I eventually get over it.

It took more than one steroid shot.

Arthritis is a disease of the joints. Tendinitis is simply inflammation of the tendon.
