My grandmother and grandfather and their parents were born in the mountains of Tennessee. The same place . . .the Cumberland Gap area and same time Daniel Boon was around. They were the Frontiersmen. They opened the Gap and and built a road for people to move west. The English aristocrats in the north east and along the Atlantic Coast persecuted them and pushed them into the Mountains of Kentucky and Tennessee. My grand mother told me when I was a young girl that they were Hill Billies and very poor until they moved to Wyoming in 1900 to work in the coal mine. My grandmother was a wonderful person who always grew a huge garden an took food around to the poor.
I might be considered a redneck if my definition is correct. I think a redneck is just a common ordinary person. I don't agree that they should be identified as trailer trash. I think if people keep a trashy yard that doesn't make them a redneck. That makes them down right lazy.

I think some ppl assimilate being a redneck or hillbilly with ppl who live in small towns as opposed to larger cities. And the way someone talks also plays a factor. I am from a small town. Born and raised in the country persay. Yeehaw!! And I am very proud of my heritage. I do have a country accent when I talk. I can't help that. But I'll tell you something. I am very proud of my heritage & who I am. I wouldn't change it for the world. The world is full of alot of mean ppl you just have to block them out & remember that alot of nice ppl reside here to. Ppl that are like that, well their opinion really means squat...after all they are not God...they want to rile ppl up. It only gets them when they see you really dont care. Best of luck to you! Have a good 'en! God bless! : )

First of all, you put your question in the animal section. But, there is a comedian (Foxworthy) who addresses this issue. - I have heard others refer rednecks to those who work in the sun on farms, thus turing their necks red. - I don't know much about red necks. But, I believe hillbilly's are slang names to label those from the smokey mountains, Ozark's, boonies, people out in the tillies or sticks, and people from the Kentuck hills. It is a shame that these people are labeled these tag names, as these folks are not ignorant as perceived. People seem to label others in a way that offends these groups, as well as other out groups.

When I hear Hillbilly and Redneck - I chuckle and think of Jeff Foxworthy and his comedy routines that he does.
He's the one that has brought the Red Neck
to the forefront and people love it. It's all in good fun.............as for me I'm both..........
