As CD-R is concern, it can't be formatted, but you can click & drag files directly to the CD-R and you will be prompt that you have files pending to write. If close the CD you wouldn't be able to add anymore files, but if you close only sesson, you can add some more files later, untill the disk is full. You will need to install Incd from Nero or Roxio.

You can format your CD-R/W disk to be use it like a floppy. But run ONLY on other PC with CD writter and other PC ( w/o CDwritter but with Incd install ).
To format : From the window Explore, right click on the CD-R/W drive and chose to format . this will take you a while. Nero or Roxio cd writting software needed. I will recomend NERO.

Go to the "Explore" and right click on "A" drive and chose to format the "floppy". As far as CD is concerned, normally a CD cannot be formatted, except when it is re-writeable CD (RW-CD). For this, any burning software can be chosen, e.g., Nero, Roxio, etc.

You can't "format" a CD.

If it's a CD-RW, then you can erase the data in a burning program like Nero.

confident you could.. you purely insert abode windows CD and boot from it. then persist with the practise and you'd be ok.. determine you dont format or delete the D partition.. in case you prefer to do reinstallation, basically boot from the D partition.. some producer will ask you to burn a reinstallation CD or DVD first.. look for advice from a chum or a working laptop or laptop technician while you're uncertain..
