The turbulence is due to religion, terrorism and power hungry politicians.
The biggest culprit is Bush Jr. With the demise of cold war between the USSR and the USA, the balance has swung in favour of the USA. Instead of guiding the world in the direction of peace and prosperity, Bush Jr has led it to a heap of religious hatred. His intentions are Satatnic. Besides misleading the entire world, he is misleading his countrymen too.
It is good that he would be no more in power beyond November. I perceive the Americans would not be voting for his party too.
The religious fundamentalists have also played an important part in destabilising the world. It has also given birth to religious/racist hatred.
Unfortunately the slide is fast and continuous.
Let us not help it degrade further by inciting. Religious tolerance and peace initiatives would of great help in restoring the world order.
The UN should act decisively. The five permanent members should come forward to restore the world order. Other important countries of the security council should help the cause too.

Undoubtedly you will get many responses saying that it is the fault of the United States. In some ways they may be right, but not for the reasons you think.
Unfortunately, democracies cannot coexist indefinitely with powerful and ambitious totalitarian regimes. Sooner or later the competing goals and ideologies bring conflict until one or the other side prevails. That is where we are right now.
I think what happened on September 11, 2001 was a defining moment for the world. I don't say that because I believe the world revolves around the United States. I say that because on September 11th it became clear that the US was vulnerable and those that had previously been kept in line fearing the power of the US now knew that it was possible to strike a blow against the US where it counts most, by bringing the fight to our soil and directly against our people..
I believe that there are many countries that have resented the US for decades if not centuries because of the influence that the US had in the world and that when September 11th happened they saw it as an opportunity to break away from that influence and try to increase their own power status of where they stand in the world at a time when the civilized countries of the world should have stood together. That didn't happen. This is one area where the Untied States failed. We took for granted that the rest of the free world would hold that freedom from totalitarianism as important as we did. Well, they all don't. There are countries that desire power to freedom. They want to retain that freedom but they are willing to risk a free world if it means they get their "15 minutes of fame". So in many ways what happened on 9/11, as horrendous as it was, has worked in the favor of the countries who would like nothing more than to see the US lose pwer and they gain power. It changed the direction the world would take for the future.
Even more disturbing is that we have people in our own country that are working against the US. The fight between the controling political parties in the US has become so polarizing that the message we are sending out to the rest of the world and to the terrorists is that we are a country divided. That further emboldens the terrorists and those countries that would like to see the Unites States topple. In many ways, we are bringing about our own demise. We don't even hold the wellbeing of our free democracy as most important. It is more important to claim victory over the opposing political party.
We are in a no win situation and we are doing it to ourselves. Not because of the present administration of the US. Anyone naive enough to think that September 11th would not have happened had Gore been the sitting president are just fooling themselves. It was coming and that is all there was to it. If you remember back, Gore was a member of an administration that didn't do enough to stop 9/11 either. UNLESS the people of the United States REUNITE and put politics aside for the wellbeing of our country as a whole we are doomed. Literally. If we are doomed, the rest of the free world is doomed.
Bottom line is... a weak United States means an unstable climate in the world. Period. There isn't a leader of this country present or past that doesn't know that. There also isn't a country in this world that can take the place of the United States and successfully keep the world a relatively free place to live. The leaders of the totalitarian regimes and terrorists know that.
Who's side are you on? The answer should be simple.

Excellent question. I hope there was ten points ear-marked for the best question…I would give it to you. Answers, or rather solutions to this phenomenon are the absolute need-of-the-hour. The world is in so much turbulence because ninety nine percent of the people worldwide are doing what is evident in the few answers received here in reply to your question. Yes everyone is sitting on their backsides twiddling their thumbs and pointing their fingers at all and sundry but not at themselves. Bush bashing, Bible thumping, politician blaming etc., etc. is in fashion and gives us a sense of exoneration. The targets of our collective accusing fingers did not just happen, they too were born naked and innocent as you and me, social injustice did not just happen, all the reasons cited did not just happen. My friends we are trying to figure out. “Why the world is in so much turbulence today.” However, for centuries we, every individual have been neglecting to recognize and address the turbulence in ourselves, our homes, our schools, our colleges, our work places, in our neighborhood, our villages, our towns, our cities, our states, our countries. It is this unrecognized, unresolved turbulence big and small that has throughout the centuries snowballed into a huge ugly monster, which is now threatening to destroy the world, which is causing so much turbulence in the world. The solution my dear friend is not in blaming. Each one of us should take responsibility…to wipe out the turbulence in our homes, our surroundings and ourselves if we wish to create a turbulence free world.

I don't think its really in more turmoil than any other time in history. The players are a lot more high profile and what we do makes a large difference to a major part of the world. But it seems to be about as many players as usual.

Read the Book of Revelations and you could be enlightened. The world is in sad shape because of who is in charge right now. Satan is doing his thing and this is the result. Before Jesus returns a great many will die. That is a fact. You don't have to be one of them. It's all in the Book. Try reading it, its very reveling and their is a very simple solution to the whole problem. Become one of God's people and accept Jesus as your personal Savior.

Because of power-hungry rulers. These days were predicted in the Bible... it's no surprise and there's nothing anyone can do to resolve it. And, it will continue to escalate!
Everything, and I mean "everything", revolves around Israel in these last days.
Watch, listen, learn and believe!
