I absolutely LOVE your question! I personally know the diference and there is a difference. It is in dying to our old nature and being reborn into the nature of the King of Love. This living and dying process is continual. It is up to us to choose to live the life of ressurection(a here and now existence in "the sunlight of the spirit" on a daily basis.Christ's shed blood was an extreme sacrifice for not only our salvation, but our victory in every day life. I didn't have any idea of the magnitude of blessings that would befall me by inviting him into my every day life . I now know that I am a citizen of The Kingdom of Heaven and I have all the rights and gifts that come with this amazing divine gift. Christ didn't suffer and die for anything less. It would be so arrogant of me to expect anything less. I would be the swine before whom the pearls have been cast! Jesus pulled me out of many -a- pit (crack addiction, suicide attempts, severe abuse) I don't want to take my freedom for granted... It came with an enormous price tag. Now I am a happy bond slave of Jesus and I choose to walk in joy on a daily basis!!! I only wish to help my still suffering comrades on the road. God bless you!

Meaning, am I willing to believe that God---the all-powerful, all-knowing Creator of the Universe---wants to make some kind of deal with me so I can be sure my puny 3-watt consciousness can live forever, like some kind of immortal mosquito?

No, I'm not vain enough to believe that. Lots of other people are, though. What cracks me up is how they cloak their vanity in humility. It's more acceptable that way, I guess.

Everybody might have taken birth for doing certain duties in the world. One must therefore live to do one's assigned duties.

why not do both, or neither? why not live for yourself, cause if you do you will die for yourself. why not live others, cause if you do you will die for others. It's just a matter of which one sounds more appealing to you.
