Ok im not how far back in the past i have to go (but im talking about roughly the time that the movie GANGS OF NEW YORK was)
Anyways, back in those days, the obviously had prostitues...
So i was just wondering...wat did they use to protect themselves against pregnancy!
Nowadays, most prostitutes only have sex with condoms(so iv heard) and are on the pill as extra protection against pregnancy.
Anyone got any good ideas of wat they used (or Could have/Should have used)

Protection against pregnancy in these days was kind of hard.
There were condoms made of animal parts, like sheep intestine or a fish bladder. They were not very safe and not as comfortable as today's condoms but they worked.
Also there was a "coitus interrupstus". The customer had to pull his tool out before he fired his load inside the prostitute. Very unsafe and nothing she could do about him, not pulling out at the right moment.
Usually there was no protection. Prostitutes got pregnant and had an abortion or a baby. Abortion wasn't as safe as it is today. Some times it was just a hard hit with a club in the belly. Or maybe two or more hard hits. That worked but was harmful and could cause permanent damage.
Prostitutes all ways had a hard and dangerous job and pregnancy wasn't the worst thing that could happen to them.

I think they may have had animal skin condoms. other than that they could always try to pull out and or use the old coat hanger abortion. I don't really know. Maybe they just got ghanarhia and became infertal. Gives the costomers a nice surprise too.

I lot of them were infertile due to untreated VD, botched abortions etc. Condoms have a long history, and would have been a very good idea, but the clients might have had different ideas.
