Your question is based on a flawed premise. The modern conflict in the Middle East is not comparable to the Cuban Missile Crisis.
The Cuban Missile Crisis was against the Soviet Union, an atheist country with no belief in the afterlife. The concept of mutually assured destruction served as a deterrent to both sides in that conflict.
In contrast, the current conflict in the Middle East is against Islamic fundamentalists who see death as a means to enter eternal paradise. Mutually assured destruction is not a significant deterrent.
The world is very fortunate that the Soviet Union was atheistic. If it was run by Islamic fundamentalists in the current model, there would have been no way for JFK or anyone else to prevent nuclear-fueled armageddon.

You obviously haven't heard the truth.When the soviet union fell information was discovered that the Russians had fired a missile at the Midwest.It failed to launch and in the time it took to check the malfunction . the opportunity was lost.So in fact your great president Kennedy would have got us nuked if it wasnt for GOD intervening.(what a coincidence you posted this on the religion page)
