Which country were you in when you got arrested? In the US, they need to read you your Miranda rights or your case would most likely be thrown out. US police are generally quite careful about it.
If you were arrested in Singapore, there is no such practice as reading you your rights. You do not actually have the right to remain silent, you do have the right against self-incrimination, you do have a right to a lawyer under certain circumstances and the State is not obliged to provide you with one if you cannot afford counsel.

No, the Miranda decision says that police officers need to advise a person of their right before asking questions when a person is in custody. In other words, I can arrest you and you don't have to be read your rights if I do not ask you any material questions about the case. I can also ask you all sorts of questions without advising you of your rights if you are not in custody at the time.
Due to the television and movie coverage of this, it is now reasonable to expect that everyone in the US is familair with their rights, and I expect a new Supreme Court ruling one day saying the advising is no longer required. Part of the logic of the decision was that not many people were familair witht heir rights, and they could not demand them or intelligently waive them if they were not familiar with them.

Well something is wrong with this picture, they just pulled you over for no reason and took you to jail.I think there might be more to this story than what you have told us.
Sounds like a fish story to me!!!

Did they detain you, or arrest you? If you went to jail, then they should've, otherwise, if they handcuffed you and searched your vehicle, they didn't. They're just making sure you don't run away, or attack 'em.
I suspect they had a reason to pull you over also.
